Ride without headlight ?

I'm doing some work on my sled and would like to ride without the hood/headlight. Can I do this safely as far as electronics are concerned.

You did not specify what year of sled, but in a nutshell, don't do it. As the Polaris sleds use a shunt style Voltage Regulator (What does not gets used gets converted to heat) so without the load of the headlights, the voltage regulator has to try and dissipate that much more additional heat and chances are it will cook itself trying. As the '13 and newer sleds use one VR to cover everything (ECU and all accessories) there is a very good chance you will not be riding home.

There are plenty of threads about deleting the head light and the proper sized resistors to simulate the load so you do not fry the VR. Some even add an additional VR for the accessories so the stock one only carries the ECU.

Good Luck!

I've pulled my hood harness and rigged up a resistor, then installed on the sled for the same reason.....I've found for quick testing runs, it's easier to just set your hood on, clip the front in and thread in one of the bolts to hold it down. Takes 30 seconds to install and remove, just leave your side panels off for a quick rip to test mods.

Just my thoughts.

Does this mean if you lost your key and unplugged your hood harness for a ride this would have adverse affects? I have a friend who rode 150 miles like this on a 2012 SBA. Didn't hear about anything weird afterwards.
