Ride with broken pull start rope?

If you break a starter rope on the 2010 M8 sleds (and maybe other M's) is it advisable to stop riding till you can fix or install a new rope so you don't ruin anything that the loose end of the rope may be striking??

I ask because I was told that my old 1m900 should not be driven if the rope breaks because it can take out the (stator?).

That's kind of funny, considering the pull cords were ALWAYS breaking on the old 900s! I lost count of how many days I spent the day using the tool kit strap/primary clutch method cause my cord would always break half way through a ride. Never took a stator out.

I've yet to break one on an M sled though. I would feel safe using the toolkit strap/clutch method to get me through a day, but fix the pull cord as soon as you get back to town.

The only real danger is that the rope will come apart and all the lint will cover the stator and maybe over heat it and cook it. I wouldn't let it end my day early but for sure I would fix it before I ride again. Mainly because it is a pain to start a big bore when it is cold with the clutch wrap thing.

well I would not ride yrs back my cuz rope broke on the 1m800 long story short under hood smoke then dead prob 5 mi to the trail took out stater and recoil and 1 of my belts and a day of riding 1300 mi from home

LOL i put 400 miles on my old 900 in valemount with a broken rope and using just the teather strap in the tool kit. Good thing it was an EFI because it will start for sure on 3 pulls or less. Would not do that on a carb job though and never hurt nothing inside by doing that and i would do it again if i had to.
