Richer map = increased engine life?

Hey guys (and gals). My brother has a 2010 RMK 800 and has had nothing but trouble with the motor since he bought it new. He is on his third (professional) rebuild and only has 1500 miles on it.

Recently he met a guy who claims to have a map designed by polaris before the epa forced them to lean it out to conform with emissions standards. He says he can load it on to my brothers ecu and solve all his problems.

So I have 2 questions. Will a richer map help with the reliability issues? Is this alleged polaris map legit?

I have wondered this same question for a long time. I think more fuel and possibly more oil, will definitely help. Here is my $.02. Both provide lubrication and cooling for the 2cycle engine? A 4 cycle has a dedicated oiling system that lubes and COOLS. Further, when any liquid atomizes from a liquid to a gas, it takes heat energy and actually has a cooling effect. Slightly more cooling and slightly less friction might helps polaris's sloppy tolerances. A sled will run well at 12:1 air, fuel ratio. Even Lower under load.

I use a PC-V to richen my mid-range and lean out the over rich full throttle on my D7. I really doubt the friend of a friend who knows a guy, has a Polaris map. Anyone can create a new map with a Power Commander V.

the prob is more mechanical than fuel/oil a fixit kit should take care of it

I told him that I thought the guy might be selling him some snake oil. I don't know if he's gonna take it to him or not, but I think maybe there would be more people getting a PowCom and running a rich map if that all it took to fix the problems that Polaris has had with engine reliability.

It'll probably come back with one of those resistor "chips" in the air temp sensor harness. You know the ones that claim hp gains of 15 by just installing the $15 "chip" on one wire in the wiring harness...:face-icon-small-con

I have run a PC-V since new and in 1700 miles I was about to put my 3Rd top end in. First one was stock, second one was the update which went in before any kind of failure but the pistons looked like hell @ 1000 miles and at 1775 miles the update failed. Before sticking the same crap in again I did a lot of research and ended up buying the MTNTK fix kit. Couldn't be happier, I put on 1800 miles since and the sled flat out rips. Pulls harder, runs crisper, doesn't miss a beat. Hope this helps
