Trying to plan a trip down to the dunes on May 9th and 10th assuming the weather cooperates. What are your thoughts on this? Is it too early? Whats the sand like now? What have the local temperatures/weather been like lately? Got a new bike and getting anxious to take it out. Thanks

There is no snow there, at least that I am aware of. The temps have been unpredictable. We have had some 65 degree days and then it snows 3 inches the next. The last 2-3 days it has been cold, windy, and raining a lot.....but you are always gonna chance it with weather in Idaho. It is never predictable. I think you should be fine.

You should be fine right now. It always seems to rain on us when we go up there, so we just plan on it now. What kind of bike did you buy? Were heading up there for memorial weekend. We'll be there for 3 days.

First of all, thanks for the responses. Good info coming in here. I bought an 08 YZ450F coming off a YZ250 so I'm expecting there to be a learning curve, like learning how to not keep floating valves :D Got a smoking deal on it though; now is definitely a good time to buy toys.

Thanks for the link bullfrog. I'll check a few days before to see what it's doing. Looks like next week, temps will be getting into the mid 50s here so with any luck it might be mid 60s down there. I'll probably PM you guys next week sometime to get an update of what it's like. I'm kinda hoping the sand isn't too hard.

Thanks
Jerrod

A buddy of mine went two weeks ago and had a pretty good day. Don't know any more than that, I went to Jefferson that day. I thought it was kinda ironic.

I talked to Boondocker they said the sand is wet as they were testing out there but just watch for the blow-holes on the north slopes this early in the season I have been out there this soon and have had some good trips.

Was up there last Wed. Great day the sand had really come around but like MPS said we have had rain snow sun and wind in hte past week. I think we are going up again at the end of the week so if we do I can post another report. Its awesome to be able to ride bikes and sleds all in the same week around here.:beer;

The wind blew 30-40 mph ALL day today in St Anthony, dunes should be fresh and hard but watch the leeward sides- they'll be mushy. Looks like a still but moist weekend.
