REVY AVY! its here already!

What brand of pack did you have on? Was it a BCA?

Not that it would have saved a life but to spend that kind of money on something that May or May not work is inexcusable. I would be interested in some of these details. Might make my decision on what pack to purchase.

Glad everyone survived and hopefully won't have any long term affects of this. But it is another season and it can happen at any time.

Thunder

The BCA pack isn't even out on the market yet, so it couldn't have been the BCA pack.
I too would be interested in the details of why the pack didn't deploy. There are a few reasons why that could have happened. It could be a pack malfunction or a user error. I'm not pointing the finger either way. One issue we have seen with the ABS is user error with the trigger. The trigger does not get fully inserted into the quick connect and therefore the trigger won't deploy the pack. There are several other factors that it could have been, and it could have been the pack that malfunctioned.

One thing to note about avalanche airbags. They are like any other device, they are not 100% effective and they do not guarantee to save a life. They do however greatly increase your chance of survival.

Thanks for sharing your story. Don't second guess, it is what it is, decisions were made that determined the outcome. Thank goodness for buddies that can pull through. Way to go Jeff and Randy.

You made it out to tell your story. Keep your head up.

Really glad to hear you all made it out. Ive been on the searching and digging end of one of these deals and it is one of the worst feelings ever. I think second only to being the one burried.

Be safe everyone, with all the heavy snowfall expect slides and try to be prepared.

Jake

Thank you for the write up. These type of stories help all of us if we are caught in the same circumstances. Glad to hear you all made home to your families.

I am so greatful that all of you guys are still with us to share your story!

I could be wrong but it sounds to me like some training paid off. In that situation 5-15 min. Recovery, Thats just plain awsome!

Thank you for sharing your story.

Glad to here you boys made it out alive. I hope to never be in this situation but if I am I will hopefully learn from your experience.
Everyone seems cocerned about what pack did not deploy and why it did not deploy. I think everyone is missing the biggest point in this case and this case only. If Jeff's pack would have deployed he would have been carried over the massive cliff. I would be willing to bet that if he pulled it now it would work. Sometimes things just work out for the best and in this case that is what happened. He had the big guy on his side this time.

Sounds like you are lucky enough to ride with some very special guys and have an even bigger power on your side sied as well. Hope everyone will remeber to always take a look around at the big picture of things and keep the avy's in their minds and in their decsion making process. Thank you for sharing your story and may this be a safer winter than last year.

BCA pack is not being released until December. If you would provide details on the failure of the pack to deploy, it may help many of us. Thanks,

unreal story, still scary reading it the second time, glad your out, thanks to quick action of you buddys your ok, that is just to close. Scary that there werent more signs of the snowpack. also glad your buddys pack didnt work, but i would be nice to know why that is scary that it didnt work, might have saved him this slide but, i think he bought the pack with the intention that it would inflate when he pulled it in a slide. Just glad you are ok, very scary
Thanks for the story

Good on you ALL for being prepared, having the right equipment, and knowing how to use it! Its something that still people do not seem to grasp the importance of.

Regardless of what anyone says about decisions made of where to go, you all made very good decisions in carrying the beacons, shovels, etc.. necesarry to be able to tell this great story yourself, alive, at home, with your family.

The four of you will be joined at the hip the rest of your lives. On the emotional side it must be overwellming.Keep on living, keep on riding.

Thank you for the story!

I'm glad everyone made it out alive.

What were the snow conditions that day and what type of slope, vegitation, rocks, etc. were on the hill? I'm trying to catalog all of the info in my head so I may never make the wrong decision to which hill to ride and not to ride.

Also has the hill broke loose before or just a freak slide?

So many times myslef and riding partners just see untouched terrain and go hit it without much evaluation. This year my son will be riding with me and the boys more. I want to ensure I provide the proper example to responsible riding for him, and not act like I'm 18 out there.

Thanx, :beer;

I would like to correct all who are refering to this as a "story". It was an experiance that no one wants to have. I hope that all who read this experiance will learn from it.

I wouldn't use all the advise from people on just an internet forum.

There are so many things that can become misleading, and can possibly get you to make the wrong decision.

You are better off to get a professional to show your these things.

A true testament to the equipment available.
So happy to hear you all made it out of there......and it really baffles me to hear that some people still choose to ride without beacons, hopefully your experience will change the mind of those uneducated people, and could quite possible save many more lives!
