A couple of weeks ago I decided to go www.ridewithchrisbrown.com Here is a quick review for anyone considering making the trip.
First let me say that after becoming aware of Chris’ accident last year I couldn’t believe he was riding again. After meeting and spending a couple days with him he described some of the challenges he faced with rehabilitating himself both physically and mentally. I was impressed and inspired by his story and wish him the best in his continued recovery.
Some reasons I chose Chris were Avalanche Safety, Backcountry Awareness and Improved riding skills. And probably in that order. I wanted someone who could not only make me a better rider but also feel safe while doing it. Every morning without fail he checked to make sure we had our beacons ON and tested them to ensure they were actually working. We did some basic but necessary beacon drills and discussed things like multiple burials and establishing a leader in case of an avalanche.
He also quizzed me on things like what would you do if you got lost in the backcountry? Do you have a lighter? How would you start a fire? And periodically he would ask me while riding “which way is the truck from here?”
This wasn’t the “try to follow me and watch how great of a rider I am” routine. We rode to MY comfort level but at the same time Chris knew how to push me just enough so I would become a better rider. And he makes you feel very comfortable while doing it.
His lodge was very nice and has all the comforts of home. Not to mention his girlfriend Liz is a great cook. Ask for the Black Cod! I also have to tell you this part- When I arrived I realized there wasn’t a TV in my bedroom, which I would have preferred, but not a big deal. Well, to try and accommodate me Chris called the cable company almost immediately to see if they could come out that afternoon just so I would have TV for 3 days. Pretty nice guy.
On top of all this the terrain was phenomenal and the snow was great. Not sure what else would have made this a better trip. If this is the kind of experience your looking for I would highly recommend giving Chris a call.
Thanks Chris!
