Reverse just grinds?

I was out west and my reverse would just grind, I put in drive and it worked just fine. I never tried the rest of the trip bc i didn't want to break anything and be out a sled for the week. Its the 07 and i know its not the best. Any ideas whats going on in there, I hear the grinding and my temp light blinks, just a warning that something is not right, im sure. drove fine in drive all weekend. Idk if something is loose or broke, im going take it apart soon, thought i would get some imput before i dove in.

Any ideas, and is it possible to take reverse out of the stock dd and leave it out so there is no future problems.

Any used bdx dd out there?

Pull it apart and take a look. Could be a bad bearing or planet. Both items have been known to fail and are easy to fix. I put an 09 drive in my 07 to avoid more problems. It is an exact replacement and you don't need to change the track shaft like you would with the DD lite. Then save your reverse drive for a back up.

it shouldn;t grind trying to put it in reverse because everything should be at a stand still..??...or are you saying that reverse engages and then grinds as you back up..??..if the latter is the issue then you have to dive in..but if the former is correct just maybe its a reverse actuator motor /wiring issue..??...especially that you say the temp light is coming on means that your issue could be a short etc when trying to go into reverse...if you think that its the actuator just unhook it and try on the spline with a small pair vice grip to get into gear and see if it sounds ok...and if it does just get one of those peak design manual lever

The 07 is a great sled..but like others say get a second d/d...for backup...upgrade it with good bearing and then put it on the shelf...i picked up a spare d/d and primary in swapmeet..you can be choosy and get a good buy if your buying spare and not in a panic..

There is so much you can do to your m..nosnows..oil delete...boss seat..mesh hood.timbersled frt end and skid..etc etc..there is a couple vids i just put in the vid section today of this forum...take a look at it...07/m8..175 horses and 405 ilbs...the manufacturers will catch up to mine in another few years..

i like the way it runs, i have the 09 tunnel update, claw track, slp intake, slp y-pipe and pipe with the mbrp can. i have the no-snows and boss seat. looks sweet in my opinion. i will try it again now that i am home and dont have to worry about sitting in the motel and hearing about the rest of the guy's day.

I have the same problem on my 08 m8. I try put it in reverse and sometimes it will make a nasty clunk and start grinding and sometimes the wrench and CCU code comes up. Any thoughts

just be at a complete stop to shift..belt deflection if to tight will not allow the slop needed to complete shift sometimes..gotta wiggle the sled..lol..the wrench light should be on in reverse i thought..??...and believe it or not i have seen a loose spark plug cap throw codes at times that make no sense

had same symptoms for past 2 seasons on my 2008 m8t. Everything looked fine when I replaced the bearings in the DD this fall, so my theory is that I may be taking too much power from the ccu already to get the motor to engage the reverse consistently (or maybe reverse motor was shorting or getting weak), so I put in the peak manual reverse shifter this fall. $24.95 shipped & easy install. http://www.peakdesignworks.com/PeakPerformancefrontpage.html

I haven't tried it on the snow yet, but it has VERY positive engagement. You won't have to burp the throttle to make it "lock in" like before. You flip the lever & it goes right in.. 100% engagement. The shifting mechanism in the "basket" of the DD itself has an "over center" feel to it, so it really locks into place and stays.

I seen these before. looks easy to make, what holds it into drive. Its not that i am worried about my feet catching it. just that there is no spring pressure or anything holding it from moving. Or is there something?

Mine now, when i try reverse is like it goes in between forward and reverse, neutral so to say.

I was playing around in the shop today and discovered that if i shut my hand warmers off, reverse works just fine, is this a short of some sort. I know that my left hand, hand warmer dont work. but when i shut the switches off, reverse works just fine. Im lost.

maybe that non-functioning hand warmer wire came loose & is grounding to the handlebar... that could put enough of an electrical load onto the ccu that it can't actuate the motor to shift.

If you pull it about 25% toward reverse & let go, it snaps back into the forward position due to the internal "spring pressure" mechanism of the diamond drive. I don't there is any way to get it to come out of forward other than pulling on it.

They don't break down the part on the cat schematic to show the moveable part that contains the "over-center" spring gizmo, but it's in the "output shaft assembly"
