Revelstoke - what documentation do I need

I looking for info on what documentation I need for my sled to be legal before I head up from the states. Do I have to purchase an over the counter license of some sort. I always carry my insurance card and registration. Any info would be great.

Insurance... ownership papers... on sleds and truck.

Also...Don't plan on having anyone in the truck if they have ever been convicted of a DUI.

Some say there is a time limit on that... but I've been turned around with a friend who had a DUI 15 years ago.

Not too sure about coming north of the border but to go south you need your passport. I know going south of the border can be a pain in the ***.

^^^^^^^^

Truer Words couldn't have been spoken then that right there. Have never had a good time going through any of the border crossings.

When we go south , it's not to bad going into the US but coming back the first question they ask is did you have those snowmobiles when you left canada.. Registeration and insurance is a must. We do one sledding trip a year in the US no real hassels crossing the boarder.

So I have done 3 trips to BC sledding. I have never been asked for reg papers or insurance on sleds or trailer(or truck for that matter). I also haul gas for the sleds and they never asked about that either(we used to get hassled about race gas for the race cars we brought into Canada but that was back east). Is this a 100% thing now or hit and miss.

Make sure you have your passport.

Also, any felony will come up as a flag in their system

My buddy had a felony from 24 years ago and they brought him into
The special interrogation room.

Insurance on sleds?

Is insurance mandatory on sleds in canada. I have 2 M7 sleds i was going to take to whistler riding and dont have insurance on them and dont really want to buy insurance for a $3500-$4000 sled. Thanks

Insurance is not mandatory for sleds in BC. Ownership and registration papers are if you are a resident. Non resident(USA) you can prolly get away with it because you don't live in Canada.
That being said, at the USA border, proof of ownership from your home country will be required to return home. That will show them that you didn't buy the sled in Canada and you aren't trying to import it illegally.

kanedog

never been asked for proof of ownership coming back into the states.

has to be close to 70 trips now.

going into canada
have always had registration etc. been asked if we have it....but have never had to show it.

been stopped and or searched around 20 times... mostly because of enclosed trailer. never an issue. after 10-20 minutes on our way.

have had to throw away fruits and vegies. coming back into us once they took our leftover pizza because it had meat on it....lol.

last trip up into canada a month ago got grilled on if we had medical insurance. wonder if this will be an issue in the future. had my insurance card as did buddie. never been asked that before

Ya, they don't seem to have any rhyme or reason for what they ask for. I think they don't have a clue and ask for whatever comes to their head at that moment.
I can never get a straight answer for the procedures at either border so now i just have everything i can possibly need.
The question about the medical insurance has me baffled.
Do you have a passport? yes, come on in!
Do you have medical insurance? no? You cannot come into our country.
That border guard was pushing his authority, thats for sure.
Where does it say you need med insurance to come into Canada? Thats right, it doesn't. **** him.
