Revelstoke Trip: What do we need to know

There are 9 of us heading to Revelstoke in late January. What issues if any do we have crossing the border? Are there noise decibel restrictions? What else do we need to know before we head up? Thanks for the input, Ryan

The biggest thing is to make sure that no one in your group has DWI's or any other felonies. If they do, they will turn you around at the border.

Dont for get your Pass Port, and as far as DUI go. You can still get in just make sure you get pardoned befor you go.

Make sure you know where to ride and don't ride in the caribou areas or restricted areas. Get a map and talk to Powder Puff on this forum, she can help.

Don't bring obnoxiously loud sleds, help us keep the area open and don't ride without your muffler. Pack in what you pack out. Respect the areas and don't ride in the cutblocks on the trails up Boulder Mtn.

Get Avy trained and make sure you practice when you get here.

Don't behave like tools in the local establishments - sledders have a hard enough time as it is without added pressure to restrict our movements further.

Bring sled registrations and insurance for border crossing.

Make sure you factor in rider abilities when riding in certain areas and ride to the level of the least experienced rider. Split into smaller groups if more appropriate. Dropping into a bowl/area with an inexperienced rider can mean a long day/night. Don't overestimate the capabilities of your sled. The powder will be deep. If you do drop into a potentially sketchy area, play follow the leader and pack a good trail in. You can always ride back up and pick a different line to come down, but this way you have a nice trail to get out on, in case something happens (breakdown, etc).

Talk to people on here and be safe, there are lots of areas that can get you into trouble if you venture into them during the wrong weather conditions. A sat phone with local emergency #'s is a nice luxury if you have it, a GPS with parking lot co-ordinates is a good idea as well. Hand held radios are highly recommended. Keep track of your group - 9 riders is a big group and keeping track of a lost rider might be tough on places like Boulder on a day with lots of tracks all over - it might not be a simple case of backtracking to get them.

Pack some Tiger Balm - you will need it after a hard day riding. Pack lots of water - you will need that during your ride.

Keep the rubber side down!! :)

^^ Great Info! I would hope everyone on this forum cleans up after themselves while on the trail, that is just one easy way to keep the green thinkers off our backs. What elevation are we going to be riding? I have a CFI sled that is supposed to be reflashed to ride below 3000'. We are staying at Glacier House Resort.

top of boulder is between 6 and 7 thousand feet

Make all trailer light's work and the break away work's on the trailers. The cop's in that town are a bunch of a-holes!!! They will nitt pick over anything and everything. Especially out of province plates that's who they look for...I guess they think we all have piles of money laying around. Also just so you know in British Columbia the BC mean's BRING CASH !!!!!

ok...I gotta ask...we LOVE Revy like a second home, and make a few trips up each year...BUT, we only have an 8 hr drive. You have a 30 hr drive, why wouldn't you go to CO, MT, ID, UT??? With the hrs saved driving, you would gain at least a full day to ride the POW.

Like I said, not knocking Revy since we love it there, but if I lived where you do (besides cutting my wrists...j/k!! :D ) I would take a road trip closer to home.

just curious.

So, back to your ? ...make sure you have your paperwork together at the border (passports, registrations, etc)...know where you're from and where you're going and where you're staying...they will ask if you have any alcohol or firearms or explosives...dont be a smarta$$ or a comedian, the border cops can turn a 5 min deal into a 2 hr ordeal where they pull everything out of your truck and trailer, go through everything, and leave it on the ground for you to repack and reload.

If you are using a sled deck...you have to have the front tiedown and 2 rear tiedowns PER SLED.

Hope you have a great trip...some of our favorite peeps are canucks. :D :beer;

also, if you go out on the town...buying a tray of pink drinks (just ask...they'll know) wont hurt either!!

Thought I should ad if you have off road lights on the front of your truck they must have covers on them while on highway, heavy enough safety chains on trailers. There were a couple of threads last season with people getting tickets fo these infractions.
Most importantly have fun and be safe.

Parking lot is about 1800', but you gain elevation fast so I don't see a point in re-flashing since 1/4 of the way up the trail you will hit 3000 ft anyway. Cabin sits at about 5600? or something like that if I remember right. Don't have the GPS co-ords here to double check but its something around there.

insurance isn't required to cross the border (as far as I know...never been asked for it)...just double check your policy that you are covered out of country.
