Revelstoke january snow conditions*************

Went up boulder today, and although it's a little pounded out there's still quite a bit of deep stuff to be found if you look. Still need about 3 feet to be REALLY good though.....a lot of alders poking out that are normally covered.

Snowing about 2cm/hr in town right now though, so it could be quite good tomorrow if it keeps up which it should. Heavy snow in the forecast all week as well.

We rode Keystone Friday and Saturday. Only eight sleds Fri and nine Sat ???

The shovel-out was completely filled in and with some Polaris boys we took care of that on Friday when the light was so-so. Saturday was clear sky and we played in the back fresh stuff until it clouded in around 3PM.

Trail in/out is the usual Keystone terrible.

Wicked update and pics JMCX!! Do you think a trip in there would be worth the drive this week? We are planning on heading out Tues or Weds this week.

If the forecast is accurate the shovel-out will be filled in again this week. Keystone is great but with poor visibility you might as well go to Boulder or Frisby where it is groomed.

Makes sense that trail is probably terrible to say the least! Thanks man and was that the shovel out in pic 2?

great shots, please be careful though, some of those shots looked a bit dicy with recent avy conditions... thats probably why no sleds.

second shot

Yes.....that second shot looks a little risky....carefull with the avy conditions....it may be the camera angle or the terrain is not as bad as it looks.....cannot see very far to the left....

The second shot looks like a prime "carefull ride zone" in these conditions.

What are conditions up boulder/frisby? Getting alot of pressure from the wife/family to not ride this weekend.

Unusual areas sliding?

Looks like clear weather this weekend but hate to be to risky. I am thinking the more open areas/meadows should be ok? Lots of new snow so there should be good riding/fresh tracks in lower risk areas?

Who has been up recently speak up.

Rode Boulder Sunday, It took us a couple days to get there due to road closures but it was worth it. Not many people on the mountain and lots of untracked powder.

The snow was heavy and packed quickly. Lookign at the temps it should be the same this weekend

Pretty much rode the bush all day so i didn't see much for slide activity. we cut up a few small slopes in the tress and didn't see anythign break loose.

Heard of a 5m deep slab avanche in blue lake that slid right down to the rocks

Hi Tuesday, snowed yesterday and was snowing again today. Not lots of people riding. The sun is going to come out for the wknd. and it is going to warm up. Did hear about a large cornice dropping on Boulder last Sat. Snow was sloughing and whumping last wk. CAC told us we will be seeing deep slab avy`s for a long time, the cold weather we had sucked the moisture out of a low snowfall level and then we all saw big snowfalls. Made reference to the conditions of 2005.

CAC told us to check GNP`s avy forecast because we are on the N/S Columbia border.

The RSC is putting on a snowmobile safety course on Sun. Jan. 18 9 a.m. at the clubhouse. Roly signed me up. :D The course is free for snowpatrol members and club members, check with Herb 250-837-1875 to see if there is still space available.

yes last week on boulder could hear alot of whumping.. kind of made you think of where to ride. but very good snow...

my dad and I are planning on coming to revy on january 23rd. Should we wait till later in february when avy conditions are not as bad or just come next week?

The conditions right now are like riding on a pane of glass, it's not if it will break it's when and how bad. The frickin cold weather first part of december made a bad layer and it's not going to go away any time soon. This year compares to '03 when it rained in november. Just tread lightly and no more statistics!! I'm riding next weekend aswell....just trying to decide what areas to hit.
