How aboot swapping an 8 where a 7 was? Would it plug in and run in a pinch? Or would the MPEM need to be swapped too?

You can install any REV motor in a ZX except the 07. Change the motor plate to the ZX. The reed boots and ypipe have a slightly different angle so you'll need those for a zx also. Your electonics from the zx will bolt right on. You could use the rev extronics but you would need to change the harness to accomodate the plugins. The first swap I did, i ran a ZX harness in a REV.

So your saying that I kan bolt an 02 stator onto an 04 case, but the current 04 wires wouldn't plug into the '02 harness.

So I wouldn't actually be gaining a spare stator then.

How bigg'a deal is it to change them? Anytime I've had these apart - I have just kept the halves close together. I once tried to remove them - but they seemed to be dogfast, so I left them alone.

Doo you need some sorta epoxy to re-install or what?

Should they need any timing afterwards - or should they be pretty much "set".

The base plate from 7-8 is the same in the zx.
The mpem from 7-8 are different curves.
I belive some years of 600 & 800 are the same mpem.

yes, you can verify it but i don't think it will.

The pickups are black siliconed in along with the screws. There is no timing to mess with. The MPEM will work, you will have a slightly hotter curve. I have a friend who use the 600 MPEM on a 800 with no problems. BUT it probably won't plug in the 04 harness.

I would put all the electronics from the 02 in the 04 motor and drop it in.

You could send your MPEM to Tom Lawrence at the Skidoo race dept and have it reprogrammed to a 800 curve.
