Replacing Oil Filter

I'm trying to complete some odd and ends on my sled before my prayers are answered and champagne powder starts falling from the sky.

The '05 Polaris Fusion owners manual states that the oil filter should be changed every 1,000 miles. I ordered the lovely $2.00 plastic filter and trying to locate the filter from the top of the engine (birds eye view). It's like play hide n go seek or maybe its my beer googles because I don't see the filter. I tried to follow it from the oil bottle but can't tell where iti is. So do I have to take off the seat and gas tank to get behind the engine and replace the oil filter. I couldn't find any posts on this topic so now I need some assistance. Your suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Its on the clutch side of the engine and I think its on the inside of the bulkhead thats located between the engine and the clutch. I think mine was clamped to the bulkhead which makes it hard to see.

Your oil filter should be located a few inches down the supply hose from the oil bottle. I marked it in red. Probably easiest to remove the oil bottle bolts so it can be manipulated until you have access to the filter.Make sure to properly bleed the oil injection system after.

Thanks fellas! Took off the drive clutch and left engine support mount off and was able to find the oil filter next to the throttle cable. Thanks for your insight.

Sorry to mis-lead you, but glad you found her! Mine and others I have seen were below the oil bottle, go figure.
I changed my oil filter this year as well, cheap maintenance. There was no noticable crud built up in my old filter.... yours? My fuel filter, was another story... time to start filtering out of the pump!

the 06 models have the oil filter just off the oil tank itself, and the 05 had the oil filter next to the PTO side front motor mount...so your still right danny boy

NOTE: the oil filters are directional flow as well....

make sure when you replace the oil filter, you bleed the oil pump screw on the front of the pump...its also a good idea to hook a piece of wire on the pump lever and route it out by your clutch...

when you start the engine, pull the wire..which pulls the lever to full oil flow on the pump, and this will bleed any air in the line...i do it for about 20 seconds, then remove the wire and your good to go

The oil filter had no build up and curious why Polaris recommends replacing the oil more frequently than the fuel filter. I did change the fuel filter but threw it right in the garbage and didn't check it out.

Found the oil pump bleed screw after taking off the boost box, y-pipe and loosing the throttle body. When I took off the boost box, I thought I was money to loosen the bleed screw but the throttle body cross bar was in the way. Always something! Definitely going to try the wire tip and makes total sense why you want the oil pump full throttle. Thanks for help boys!
