Replacing Beacon Batteries

I have a BCA tracker, just got it this year.

I figured I'd replace the batteries once a year and whenever the beacon says they are below 50%. Might be a little overkill but I'm not gonna let $3 in batteries be the reason somebody doesn't find me.

BCA tracker: replace below 70%. Search mode takes the juice. Don't want it failing me when I need it most.

Whenever it hits 75% cold.

As cheap as batteries are, no sense in not keeping good ones in there.

Throw the "used" ones in a bucket and stick 'em in remote controls or toys.

Every year, or every time the pieps battery meter dips below 100%....it usually lasts a year anyways, so no sweat.

IMO, there is no % in batteries....they're either good or no good. Also, I have ran batteries to lower percentages in my Pieps DSP before and have gotten an error codes because of it.

once a year, and when it drops below 75 when i turn it on.

like others have said, not worth cheaping out, and i run duracell, the only battery there is.

Remember, ALKALINE batteries only !!!!!! No lithium's etc. (I posted this also on the Avy thread, but IMO this is something easily forgotten over the years). Void's warranty etc. It's been in the last 2 beacon manuals i've bought.

Cheers

I carry an extra set in my gear bag, replace below 90% and move them to somthing else. NiMH for beacons and Li for Spot.

Best thing about replacing them often is when the old lady finds the "Gone sledding for the weekend" note when she gets home, phones ya yelling I just say "Hey, i replaced the batteries in your vibrator before I left, WTF you need me for" ?

I replace mine at 90%. Like mentioned above, battery life rapidly decreases when in search mode, and batteries are cheap. I just use the 90%ers in my headlamp at work.

Why no lithiums?

I thought I was being proactive replacing them at 50%, I guess I'll go with the 70% too.
