Replacement stems and/or risers for the telescoping riser?

After riding the new M in deep powder all last weekend, I've come to the conclusion that the stock telescoping bars don't go anywhere near high enough for me. They're still a few inches below my waist, which is really not very comfortable for me to ride in at all ..

I'm assuming it's a pretty stupid idea to try and put a 6" riser on top of the telescope setup as it appears it would snap like a twig.

Does anyone make a new steering stem and/or bar and riser kits that can be used on an 09 with this setup that are easy to install?

Overall I'd like the equivelent of a +6" rise from where the bars are in their upper most position ....

I got a hold of some titanium cat bars that gave me a 6" rise on my Polaris. I now have a few risers. I agree on the handle bars, for me, my 2010 M8 SP is just a few inches short and I will probably add a 2 inch Rox from my collection of risers. Something else to consider is all the wiring, throttle cable, brake line, etc... that you are going to have to extend to pull off a 6 inch rise. Been there done that on my Poo, it can get really interesting. Let me know if you need a brake line. I had a place make mine for my Polaris and they did a really awesome job for a really reasonable price. (I need to find the receipt to get the company name for you)

This might sound crazy but you could put 05-06 M bars on and that would be really high and if you don't think the adjustable post will hold up use an 07 or 08 post with the 05-06 bars.

Remember those bars?? They look like the handle bars on a little girls tricycle! LOL! Just kidding...those bars worked great!

I put the AMP riser on my 2010. They move the bars 1.5 inches forward and give you a 2inch rise. They feel good to me and havnt failed me yet.

Yeah, but 2" isn't gonna be enough ...

I need bars tall enough I don't ride in a hunched over position all day long, it's getting way too hard on my knees .....

Is the 07' Stem a direct swap?

I put on the 2 in AMP riser and thats about all the cables a brake hose will allow, I find it just right and I am 6 ft 2 in, moveing the fwd helped more than going up

I'm with you!

I have the AMP 2" riser on my VSB bars too and I'd like at least another 2" of height. I'm thinking of replacing the steering post with the Fastlane one that is 4" taller than stock.

My question is, once you mount the Cat bars to that post how does the handle bar height compare to what I have now?

One thing to keep in mind is that the post itself is weak just as is, if you go much higher you're looking at the post snapping off even easier than they have been so far.

Personally I'd feel safer with a low post & an adj. riser so when it takes a hit the riser can roll instead of bending/snapping the post.

Even with the 07-08 stem you can only go about 5" rise withought extending cables, that will only put you about 2" above the telescoping bars but should be stronger, the cables are the same length on the 09-10 as the 08.

When you install the AMP riser that moves the bars forward 1.5" (2009-2010) have you noticed any steering changes? It seems to me that it would make the steering seem different, but I don't know if it would be better or not. I put PPs on mine and it steers really hard on hardpack.

Here is what I have found while owning my 08M1K

- Steering post and bars are junk
- Tunnel and bulk head where bottom of steering post mounts is very weak

I broke the bulkhead and cracked the tunnel where the steering post bolts on and have since severely reinforced it. I also completely twisted off my steering post where it clamps to the tank and was going to weld it up but I found a new post for $25. I ended up just taking a solid piece of aluminum round stock the same diameter as the inside of the steering post and inserting it from the top into the steering post. It doesn't require any welding and will not bend or come out, it cost me like $3. Once I resolved the pizz pour design of the steering post mount and reinforced the post I needed some new bars and more rise. I opted to go with RSI since I had heard nothing but good from them so I ordered their steering post pivot adapter, 8" pivot risers, tapered aluminum bars with race bend, and hi power grip heaters. After installing everything I am very happy with this setup. I am 6'2" and last season I rode with a 3" Amp riser block and now that I this setup I am much more comfortable . 8" is the maximum height you can do without extending the throttle cable and electrical wires. I of course had to extend the brakeline but that was cheap and easy, I went to NAPA and bought an 8" piece of hardline for like $6 and that was it. Hope this helps.

This is the only pic I have of my current setup.

Ok I guess after spending all season on the stock bars, I've found that that 2" offset riser is just about right

But

I bent my steering stem.

Does anyone make a replacement that is the same height as the stock telescoping stem when it's fully extended?

Not sure if Wildchild does them for the Cat, but he makes awesome rod reinforced chromoly ones any height you want. Send him a PM.

Ausm, Where is your seat?

Wildchild does make custom posts for the M's, $200 for exactly what you're looking for, not bad at all!

I ended up being in too much of a hurry to get one from him, but my next post will be one of his with a t top JUST above the cowling so I can rise it up to the bars myself & I doubt I'll ever bend another post that way.

I highly doubt you will bend a Wildchild post. I have had one on my Poo since 2002 and have yet to bend the post. My steering hoop that he did is another story. You cannot do a rod reinforced hoop. It would bend slightly so I would tighten it up (the screws are a real b to get to) I finally took it off and used a few of our bent radius rod pieces to reinforce where the screws go so that I could tighten it up really tight and not bend (flatten) it out. I also have a Holz steering post bracket for extra protection.

The new cats are so light, but guess what they did to lighten them....... They used lighter materials or no materials. Thinner aluminum, etc.... Nothing (especially a-arms) holds up to hard riding (or med riding). Reinforce whatever you can when you can.

Definitely get Wildchild's post.

How difficult is it to replace the post? Do you have to take the driveshaft out to get to the bolt on the bottom of the bulkhead?
