Repairing dented pipe?

I've got a dented pipe I would like repaired. I talked to Pacific Crest Pipe Repair, somebody recommended them from a thread on the old forum. An employee told me they don't fix snowmobile pipes. I just can't see throwing the pipe away, I think it would be a farily easy fix for a person that is experienced in doing this.

Anybody know of a place that does?

Aftermarket pipe, it's a Hot Seat for a 2003 Pro-X 800. I live in Stickney, which is 30 miles SW of Mitchell.

if its not twisted and just dented, this might work for you, in most autobody shops thay have a stud gun, what it does is welds a stud to bare metal, then use the puller to grab the stud and whammo u pull the dent with a holl in the metal the just grind off the tab that was welded there,,,, alt is to weld a washer to it but i think i would try the stud gun first if i had my choice. hope this helps

If its a small dent.. air pressure and a little heat works pretty well.. however is a little scary if the pipe is in bad shape.. I have heard of people using the stud gun method and sounds like it works good.. but no experience with it here.. But check with your local body shops, they might have better ideas..

if you are any good with a torch you can get it back. youll need to plug one end completely and pump air into the other end. I would start at 15psi and start working the torch. if it does not come out come up easy on the air....a couple psi at a time. you may have to quench the area to shrink it back to normal size.....maybe not. be careful to not get too pin point with your heat. it will come out.

there is a guy called the pipe doctor in the twin cities area that does this. i just saw his number written on a piece of paper in the garage the other day, see if i can find it for ya tomorrow

You could try filling it with water, plugging both ends, and put it in a freezer.

I have done this numerous times with dirt bike pipes, Works great, just keep an eye on it, it will freeze hard enough to split the pipe.

check your local dirtbike shop... I've had the pipe on my Honda blown out a couple times. They fixed a pipe, that I thought was wrecked for sure.
I went in to buy a new pipe, and took the old one just to show him(my buddy)
and he said "I could fix that"...... "ya, right" I said
Sure enough, he popped it out amazingly well... I was, impressed

I have used the torch and air method around a dozen times and it
works real well. Plug 1 end and have an adapter to fit the old air hose
and start pressurizing the pipe and add heat from the outside perimeter
of the pipe and move towards the middle as it expands back to where
you need it to be. Boom your done. PS STAY CLEAR OF THE END PLUG.
Sometimes they will blow out.
Hope this helps a lot cheaper than a new pipe.

I've done this lots too. I used a blow gun to apply the pressure. They have pipe thread at the end. Works extremely well. To plug the large end, I used a foam "PIG" from cleaning pipelines and tightly wired it in.

I'd go with the Pipe Dr. I've talked to metal guys who have done the air and heat method. They say pay someone to do it cause if it goes bad it can really go. If you try on your own you may want some sort of pressure relief on the pipe.

I think I'll skip the air and heat method. I just know I'd screw the pipe up. :o If I was to do the frozen water method, how do I know when to pull it out of the freezer so that it doesn't damage the pipe? Do you just wait until the dent is gone?
