Renting sleds around the Lake Tahoe area?

Hey all - Does anybody know a place where I could rent sleds from in the Lake Tahoe area? Me and a few friends are planning a ski trip to that area, and myself and another guy want to take a day off from skiing to do some riding. We would prefer to rent some M8's. All of the places I've seen from my google searches just have tours, which we don't want to do. We just want to rent sleds then head out and find our own spots off of the trails. Thanks in advance!!!:D

Here is a link to the local club.

If you are experienced an 800 (M8's) would be a great choice but not experienced you would have more fun on a 600 or 700.

With technology today most name brand sleds perform so well a new rider won't know the difference until you get a couple rides under your belt with each brand.

If you go to a pure "touring" rental shop you will get a lower performance sled in California because of the liability.

If you go to a dealer selling sleds they will have sleds to use and go out and see what you like.

I think your best choice will be getting together with local club riders and have them find a sled for you and go riding together in a group.

The locals will know the trails better and the off trail "secret" best riding areas.

It would be safer and more enjoyable.

It is loads more fun having a group around and very helpful when you need to dig yourself out of a hole.

Thanks for the advice...we are pretty experienced. Been out west quite a few times...friend is an engineer for arctic cat.

Then pull up all the dealers in the area.

http://www.arcticcatdealers.com/results.htm

Call them and say you are going out there for a vacation and wants to rent a few demos for a weekend.

Dealers get a free sled or more depending on how much they sell. So getting to use the free sled(s) for a day should be no problem (especially an engineer from Arctic Cat.)

I still think hooking up with local riders is your best choice to ride.

Since you are with a guy working for Cat I dopn't think you will have a problem with finding experienced riders wanting to spend a day out riding with you ... and willing to show you all those "best locals only know" riding areas.

Don; I don't know where you got the "dealers get a free sled or more" info? but it is not true. More like a 5% discount. (and not always available) It is not even enough to cover a new hood on the two brands I sell.

Well then I guess the dealers I know lied to me.

Not trying to start a fight or anything but my adventures up north and buying sleds at the dealer got them talking and they told me this to my face.

"We get free sleds and demo them"

I am not a dealer and don't know the in and outs. I was part of a multi sled purchase and the dealer was telling us of all the percs from the manufacturer.

We have M-sleds and crossfires for rent, they come with a trailer, hook them up and take them where you want. They are all 2007 model year, and I'll have some 2009 model year this season. We don't let the m-sleds out until there is plenty of snow on the ground as 90% of the people tend to overheat them, whereas the crossfire will run much better on low snow conditions.

Our demo sleds aren't free by any means. We get a discount (nothing major) and have to keep them as a demo unit until Feb 15. We do not have to let anybody ride them, but will let them take a short rip if they are interested in buying (I can tell if somebody is going to buy, or if they are bs'in me)

If you want to rent a few sleds this winter give us a call and we'll book it. Got to wait until sept/oct as the shop is closed now.

No more cope and mcpheteres as they are out of business, Carson city yam doesn't sell sleds.

We aren't on that list for some reason, but we're the only arctic cat snowmobile dealer in the area.
We are the only ones in the area who have non-guide sled rentals.
