Renten Exhaust Springs from Boondocker

What do you guys know about these springs? I ordered them from Boondocker to replace the 2 spring plates and 9 springs on my 07 M8 turbo. They mentioned on the phone to fill them with RTV silicone before installing. Anybody do this or are they pulling my leg? They also mentioned that if they touch the pipe they will break. Anybody have issues with that? Also, I imagine they are a biatch to install. Any recommendations???

I just know the springs that came with my BD kit practically take a tow truck to latch onto them and hook them around the ears.... WOW those things are a bitch to get back on.
 
I dont know about filling them with silicone, but I've always put a "bead" of high temp on the exhaust spring to keep them from vibrating. Its worked good for me for years. As for the install, they are a biatch!! Get yourself a good set of long nosed "hook" pliers. They give you the room to work around the pipe and hook em in place. I wouldnt even try to use regular pliers. I had a "t" handled "J" hook tool from Arctic Cat, broke after the second spring!! The new springs work good but they are stiff as he!!

you need to bend the y-pipe spring tabs out to make sure that the springs will not touch. if you dont they will keep breaking. I broke 3 of them last season before I put the silicone on them and bent the tabs out, haven't broke one since.
 
I dropped one in my belly pan trying to put it on under the pipe

said the heck with it and bought the ac spring to replace, someday i'll dig it out, but they were filled with silicone, bought the sled from boonie's
i used bailing twine, but rips in pieces once spring pinches it at the y pipe

All I know about them is they are a biatch to install as mentioned above. What I started doing is get a few feet long piece of pretty fine rope but strong enough to hold. Wrap it around each hand a few times and hook it on the spring. Then you can put a foot on the bulkhead and get some serious leverage on them and get them on. Then just pull one end of the rope through the spring and voila it's installed. :) Now keep that rope with you in case you ever need to check a spark plug.

I just let the pipe cool off for half an hour if I need to change a plug :face-icon-small-dis

We have a new design that have longer leg on one side like the stock springs.

On install if you put the bottom pto spring on as you put the pipe on it makes it easier.
 
im running the ovs style no more springs to break they work great i just install them in 3 minutes with a pair of large channel locks and they are stainless they have them on there website i believe
