Rentals/Lodging in SNowies

Looking for info on sled rentals and lodging options in the Snowies for the end of Feb or beginning of March. Would like to not have to drive car back to hotel. What are pros and cons of riding out of Albany vs Centennial?

There are quite a few threads that cover this - if you do a few different searches you will find a ton of info and opinions.

It really depends on what YOU want out of your trip. There are positives to riding out of each area.

What is important to you? Rentals and ride from your door lodging are available at both areas.

Restaurant/bar?
Gas easily available?
Type of terrain?

Those also factor in to people's decisions. IMO Albany is the better full service option (one stop shop for lodging, gas, food, bar, convenience store, etc.) but Centennial is closer to the top of the mountain for the hill climbing and generally steeper terrain (and the avalanche danger that goes with that - make sure you have your gear).

If the weather is bad (snowing and blowing) it is better to ride around Albany. The trees help with the visibility and it is easy to find good snow by the trails.

If this is your first trip out - I would suggest staying in Albany, riding around there for a day or two and then venturing up T trail to the top of the mountain once you have adjusted to the elevation and mountain riding.

Thanks tmk50. The altitude factor is great advice. Thought about staying in Laramie, but would like to ride back to our doorstep. How far of a ride is it to some play areas from Albany?

Some days you can get off trail and find good snow within the first 5-6 miles. We typically just blast up 10-12 miles before we get off the trail (my parents cabin is ~11 miles up the trail and we do a lot of riding around there after we drop our food/supplies off).

There is a lot of good area going north on T trail after a good snow. You will see a lot of places to hit off of the main trails (logging roads, creeks, meadows, etc.)

From Albany if you rode strictly trails Q and T you could be to the top of Libby Flats in ~20 miles. To get to that same spot from the Greenrock (Centennial) parking lot is ~5-6 miles.

if you are renting, don't you have to get them at Albany or is someone else renting? If you rent there and it is your first time, it is silly not to stay there.

SnowyRange Tours

Cody on top is great - he even rents turbo sleds - if you do not know the area as for Todd as a guide he can show you the back country
