Rental Sled Insurance???

Friend Coming riding Cooke City end of month went to reserve and 800 XP at Cooke City Exxon. They told him they don't offer Insurance. Is this something new? Is rental Insurance a scam/not worth it? I told him to check with other local dealers. The Bike Shack in Bozeman offers insurance for $25.00 not sure the coverage. Thoughts and input???? TB

I for one dont think its a scam. One of the guys I worked with rented sleds all the time. He always got the insurance as well. One day he ended up totaling a 900 RMK. When he got back the Renter looked at him and just said you had a blast didnt you. He was like yes I did paid the 600 dollar deductible and left. That wat the comapny was happy and he didnt have to pay for the sled entirely.

Alot of rental places do not offer insurance anymore. It more like if you break-it you buy it policy. A friend of a friend rented an RMK 600 out in Winter Park & totalled it. He was given a choice of $1500 to buy it or $1200 to fix it. He drank alot that night before he went home to the wife to explain.LOL.

I believe in the insurance however, we rented sleds in BC once and the rental outfit said "yeah we got rental ins. you pay the first 2000.00 and rest is covered" I thought at that price it was just over the top for a deductible payment.

They do that so people take better care of the sleds. So instead of "riding it like its a rental" you might actually try not to wreck it and you might treat it like a borrowed friends sled that has no insurance.

Other than that, Rick is a great guy and i just got my sled back from him. I have rented sleds from him before and it was awesome. The sleds are all set up well and run better than most rentals. Would not rent from anywhere but the Cooke City Exxon.

If you can get the insurance ALWAYS purchase it. I run a rental fleet and we see dozens of damaged machines a year. It is just too easy to do thousands of dollars in damages. On our 550's our damage agreement is $16 with a $800 deductible and our 600's agreement is $25 with a $1000 deductible.

My experience has been most credit cards and auto insurances do not cover these types of damages (snowmobiles and ATV's). Some homeowners policy's do.

If they offer insurance, get it.
We pulled a sled out of a treewell in Clark last year.
Young lady lost it on a corner and center punched a tree.
The rental place offered insurance but she didn't want to pay the 25 dollars.
So instead she paid 2500 for the sled.

I am pretty sure they do not offer rental insurance at the sled shops in Cooke City. That is the way it has been for the last 5 years or so we have been going there.
