Removing factory decals from RMK

Ok guys and gals I have a question. How are you guys removing the factory decals from your sleds. I am trying a hairdryer, but it seems a little heat gets the glue melted and the decal can lift off, but then the film of the factory decals is sooooo thin that it just stretches and tears. And I hate using anything to scrape of the plastics as it gouges the heck out of them. Anyone had any luck with this or know any secrets?

hair dryer or heat gun does works best. Try heating a bigger piece of the decal and then while your peeling it off still heat while pulling it off, but hold the dryer/heat gun a little farther back so it doesn't melt. I find a foot or so back and forth works best, trial and error you'll figure it out. I used to be a bodyman at a gm dealer. This is how i did it on vehicles and on every sled I've owned....I hate decals!

Just got done doin the same thing to my assault. Used a hair dryer and it worked well. I actually used a razor real lightly and went around the assualt 800 part and took the rest off. Looks pretty sweet.

I used a hair dryer on mine but I heated the panel from the back side. It seemed like they peeled off better that way. I used some 3M product to clean any left over residue and it worked great. When I get home I'll look at the name and update my post.

Do not use a heat gun. Use a hair dryer. You can use a citrus based cleaner.
Also try WD-40 with a terri cloth. I took all my warning stickers off, then polished the tunnel with Mothers.:face-icon-small-ton

Tried the hair dryer and it worked okay. Moved to the heat gun and worked much better and a lot faster.

Just be careful with the heat gun, you can over heat the panel. Best advice is start slow and heat an area and do a "test pull". If the decal lifts but leaves to much glue behind, then heat the next spot and do another test pull. While your doing this, keep a mental note of how much heat / time for the best removal. Once you find the right amount of heat and time, the decal will pull right off and leave minimal glue behind.

For glue removal, WD 40 works but I've also used 3M adhesive remover and have had great luck with that. Just about any auto body paint store should have the 3M adhesive remover. Once your done with the glue removal, I usually go back over the panel with a good cleaner / polish and presto your ready to roll.

I too had an Assault come home looking like this,

But after a heat gun, a beer and some polish, she now looks like this,

Hey guys, thanks much. It is kind of a pita job removing the decals, but looks so much better without them. Just who at Polaris decided to put those hideous decals on these things anyways? Even worse, it looks like someone spent a few hours applying these ugly decals, lol!

I wish you could order them w/o the stickers in the first place. instead of paying $150 less for the wasted supplies and man hours, you'd probably pay $300 extra just to leave them off. it figures.
