Remove vents and underhood foam? Post Pics if ya got them

I was wondering how hard it would be to remove the stock hood vents on my 09 m8 and replace them with some frogskin vents to get rid of all those stupid metal clips. I also wanted to remove all the foam stuff underneath the hood and replace it with heat tape or somthing? I remmeber reading a thread awile ago on this but cant find it. Post up pics if ya have them. Thanks!

Remove all foam and glue, add heat tape (especially where the pipe is close to the hood). Remove stock mesh and add frogz skin vents, it's that easy. I've done all of the above except the frogz skin, my dealership was out but they should be here by Thurday. This was on my 2010 so it already had frogzskins on the front.

I did the same. Frogzskins on the front and the top. I have heard of the metal clips on the stock vents getting in the clutch and/or belt, I know I've found them floating around in my old sleds. I have not put heat tape on my hood yet, but I should probably get on that. One thing I did notice with the frogzskins on top, there are some tight angles around those vent openings, and they might not stick real well so maybe add a little adhesive after you put them on to keep them on. Otherwise, very easy process.

my foam had no glue came right out. i pulled all the clips and then drilled a small hole in the plastic tabs and used zip ties to hold the factory screens in with frog skins on the outside. i find leaving the screens under the frog skins help them from getting poked out/ tearing if you like to play in the trees. make sure you heat tape all the areas where the original foam had it.....

Here you go. Vented the hood as much as possible and it stays so cool under the hood that the tiny bit of snow that gets in wont melt. Mo Flow vents and frog skins over factory front vents.

I'm just using some foil tape used for home heat ducts, from Home Depot or a similar type store

i just used the automotive " goop " to make sure the metal tabs dont come off. that **** holds anything together. just like the rest said... foam is not glued. just comes right out when metal tabs are off.

thanls for the replys guys!, the main reason I want to do this is to get rid of the weight of the foam and I want to get rid of those clips on the vents for reasons stated above

Jeggs.com and Summit Racing sell a variety of heat insulation. I tried 2 inch wide heat tape under the hood on my M8 but had trouble with some of the strips losing adhesion and coming lose (and getting into my clutches). I replaced that with adhesive insulation in 24 inch sheet. No problem at since.

This may sound dumb. Does the foam under the hood reinforce the hood for roll overs? I roll my sled over sometimes when I get buried. What is the actual weight savings by removing the hood foam?
