remove starter gear on clutch

I plan to remove the starter on my new 2016 SKS.
The clutch is balanced with or witout the starter gear ?

I would recommend selling the Electric start kit with your ES clutch and make trading you their non ES clutch as part of the deal. That way both parties get what the want for a minimal fee and inconvenience.

I was looking at the part diagram for the clutch and the ES clutch come as an assembly without the starter gear, so the clutch is probably balanced without the gear.

I believe it is balanced WITH the gear. You will need to re-balance your clutch - which is much cheaper than fixing a blown motor of you don't re-balance it.
There are several shops that will re-balance your clutch for you - about $50 plus shipping.

Here's one that was recommended to me - I have not used the guy because I ended up swapping the entire clutch - as mentioned above much easier.

Here is another option to try- My shop sends all our clutches to get truly balance a clutch - Try INDY Dan Specialty- It is a true balanced and well worth the investment IMHO.

Most stock clutches...

Most OEM clutches are poorly balanced, by that I mean the tolerance is much higher than if it is sent out to be done. I personally remove and send out clutches on every sled I've owned in the last 15 years for precision balancing to aid in clutch and crankshaft life - you'd be surprised at the variances from clutch to clutch from the factory, and it doesn't matter if it's a P85, TRA, or Cat primary...

I've not seen the back of a new axys P85, but on older P85 non-ES clutches, there are not screw holes for a starter gear. The material may be there, but the holes are not drilled/tapped.

Therefore, your ring gear will not be good for anybody if you pull your ES "kit" from your sled.

Most sell the clutch with the kit or sell it w/o clutch and let buyer figure out the clutch.
