removal of ring gear effect on clutch balance?

A friend of mine has a 2005 Ski-doo Summit RT 1000 with a electric starter. The bolts that keep the ring gear to the drive clutch came lose and started to grind into the motor support. He did remove the clutch and put in new bolts with loctite but all the bolts have come lose again. He is thinking about just remove ring gear and just remove that electric start completely.

So my question is, will the removal of the ring gear cause the clutch to become out of balance and then he will start to burn belts and get maybe some other problems?

It will not effect balance. I don't believe there will be any ill effects on that sled. The newer 800's benefit from the ring gear as it is used to control resonant frequencies.

From my under standings they recalled the RT's in 05 because the harmonics thing also, the one's that made it to the dealers got installed at the dealer, the ones still on trucks got turned around and installed at the faCTORY.
electric start or not. Mine had it on and I didnt get my sled that year till almost the middle of December.

it wont effect balance becasue there is little to speak of.

If you can find the time and a few bucks, once you have removed the ring gear it's worth having the primary balanced. Ive sat on two sleds at idle, one with a perks balanced primary and one stock (both 800r) the reduction in vibration is astounding. Shows how out of balance they really are stock.

The ring gear loosening is tell you there is an issue somewhere causing the virbations.

note. you will loose some speed when you remove the ring gear..

Inertia mass makes for steadier rpms in the loose snow or rough and makes for higher sustained speed.

thats why us draggers and radar runners like hvy clutchs,, hvier the better for me...we also add mass to the flywheel to gain more inertia and help suck up harmonics too...

even the fan 550 and 380 will loose speed with the ring gear removed..it was a trick for snox to NOT remove it ..those who did always wondered where their holeshot went ..
