don't forget to replace it if it's been a while. it's just cheap insurance for these costly motors.

there are plenty of low cost options that i've seen on this forum but for a couple dollars more i found the factory replacement, $36 shipped:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fuel-Filter-Hose-Assembly-for-Polaris-OEM-2520771-/290670889591

btw, not my ad i just ordered one. if this is not kosher with the forum rules, mods please feel free to delete or edit out the link.

Edit:

Despite the item description, this filter turned out to be the SPI replacement part.

how often is it recommended to change, seasons or Miles? thanks

dealer says @ 1,000 miles and every 2k after that. that's probably overkill....

i get a little nervous after filling from gas cans or when i see the fuel tanker refilling before i'm pumping. if i notice any sediment in the bottom of my tank, i'm changing my filter. i think every 2 years would be an ok schedule, but that's just me. running lean is the last thing i'd want to do because some sediment, rotting rubber lines or old ethanol vanish clogged up the fuel filter.

i doubt there are a lot of engine failures due to clogged filters but hey...it's my fault if it does fail because of this.

Dealer says right.. A good portion of engine failures on CFI engines are caused by plugged filters. Filter plugs up and engine leans out.

Here's what SLP says:

How often should I change my fuel filter?
We recommend changing your fuel filter once every season or every 1000 miles, whichever comes first. There is
quite a bit of garbage that will get into your fuel system that the fuel filter will filter out. If the fuel filter becomes
plugged or iced up from sucking some water, it can lean the mixture out and cause the engine to detonate.

You guys are probably tired of me saying this.. Check your fuel pump sump hose's they are the clear tubing that deteriorates, crumbles turns to powder cloggs the fuel filter and i'm sure some gets to the injectors. My sled is a 2010 my sump hoses were completely broken and laying in bottom of tank last season, the bottom of the tank filled with white powder. I now change my filter every season. It doesn't take very long to pull the pump, I just replaced the sump hoses with low pressure fuel line and new clamps, pulling the tank to clean it might be an even better idea..

good idea. this happened to a sled at work last season after sitting 6 months with ethanol in it. the sled still ran but topped out at 6500 rpms. it would surge up and down 1k rpms due to the lack of fuel. the fuel pump had to be replaced as well.....btw, that ain't cheap!

I replace my fuel filter as part of my pre-season maintenance every year. I don't do a lot to my sled that doesn't need doing, and I don't spend money on every little part that is "recommended", but $36 and 2 minutes to swap it out is certainly worth it in my books.

btw about the only other thing I do before my first ride is premix a tank, because everything is greased up from the spring. Maybe this year I'll replace my plugs just for fun.

thanks for all the info gents, filter is ordered and lines will be inspected

also i haven't looked yet, but any tricks to replacing the fuel filter?
