Rember to ski cut and check your slope!

I know this is a snowmobile forum, but remember to always test slopes you think could go. Last Saturday I was out with my crew and one of the members of my crew decided to drop a line that is usually really good but VERY wind loaded at the top. He wanted to milk the turns so he was going slow upon entry, but had forgotten some key items.

1. Ski cut/Check the snow at the entry
2. Have an exit strategy ready
3. In this location... You may have to point it to get to your exit

Take a look.

boy, good example of what not to do.
Seeing a couple good safety zones that he went nowhere near makes you wonder what he was thinking?

I just went hiking this weekend above my place & had to try to remember how it's done without a motor underneath me!!!

I think a lot of sledders could benefit from your comment though, I see VERY few sledders in particular who understand how to test cut a slope before committing to the gut of it. I get slides to go all the time testing & it gives me a much more informed choice of what I want to keep riding.

This is what it can look like when you point it.

And keep going fast!! This area has a VERY clean run out and you can fortunately do this fairly safely. If these lines had ANY more vertical this wouldn't be possible.

Well Clear of the "Sluff/Slide" for his final turns..
