I am relocating to Flagstaff Arizona. It is a work oppurtunity and really have no choice. What are the riding oppurtunities locally? How far to good riding? Southern Utah? Chama? Colorado? Anyone in the area ride?
Also looking for info on the area I literally found out about this a week ago. Housing, schools, economy, etc.

Thanks for the reply! Hopefully it works out and we could ride and travel together. I have a diesel pickup and a 6 place trailer! Is there no one that currently lives in Arizona that rides? Looking for some one to travel with to ride after I get here. Also looking for some advise/info on the area in general. What would be closest riding in NM or CO. Any one from these areas want to chime in.

From my calculations it looks like you can get to Durango, CO in about 5 hours and I am pretty sure there are some kick azz places to ride there.

Probably too far for a day trip, but for weekend getaways it might be an option for you!

Still relocating to Flagstaff. Is there no one in northern Arizona that rides? What are the riding areas west of Durango? Dealers in that area? Duck creek area looks closest and easiest to access. Any one live or regularly ride in that area?

Never rode the FLAG area but I have been there lots of times. Flag has an interesting dynamic. Lots of trees and rocks. Most of the land is state parks or forest/Tribal land that you can't ride on. To the North East there is a state park which is on a Volcano eruption site, you can potentially ride the South Eastern side of the Volcano just outside the park seen lots of dudes riding dirt bikes and sand rails up there. I really doubt however, at least all the times i've been there (10 plus times 4 years in a row) That you would want to consider off trail riding. There is also a ski resort 20 min west of Flag that goes up from 7700 ft to well over 12,000 but you cant ride that either.

Most of the People that Ride in AZ ride a little group of mountains East of Phoenix called the White Mountains.

Then you have the Jacob Lake trail system, no off trail riding but they are supposed to have some OK trials.

AZ definitely gets enough snow to ride, but its mostly trail riding unless your going to drive to the white mountains which is 6 + hours away, at that point for my money if I were living in Flag id drive to Southern CO our UT. Lots of dudes from New mexico and further south that you could meet up with and ride. Post in the state sections im sure you will find some people to go with.

I know your post relates specifically to snowmobiling but Arizona and Flag is great, the bar scene, hiking, fishing, tourist stuff, river rafting, ect is unreal. Id move to AZ yesterday if the opportunity presented itself.

Duck Creek

We have property just outside of Duck Creek, and the riding is terrific. Brian head is minutes away, as well as Cedar Breaks and panguitch lake. Duck Creek is set up and geared for winter visitors, so you will have all you need dealer wise there.

Lived in Phoenix for a while. My daughter went to college in flagstaff. Spent a lot of time up there and in the white mtns. In my opinion not enough snow to ride. The whole time I lived there i left my sleds in laramie wyo and flew into Denver and rented a car. Pain in the butt. Nice to live back in the snow belt, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I like flagstaff. It's a nice place.

Durango Co area is about 5 hours from flagstaff .I live in Farmington NM about 45 minutes south of Durango. There is tons of great riding in the area . Go another 1.5 hours to wolf creek pass and some of the best deepness you will find anywhere. Chama is a great area when the snow is good this has not been a good year in Chama. its about the same drive time as Wolf creek.

Moving back down to Scottsdale soon. Debating whether to leave sleds at my place in S Idaho are keep them with me and try Duck Creek/Durango. Either way there are no day trips so figure drive farther for the free lodging. Keep in touch and we can figure something out as we sledders will be few and far between in AZ.
