First ride, couple hundred yards down road chain came off. Put back together and only have neutral and 2nd gear. How bad is it?

Need a little more info than just some short listing of the problem. We aren't google. You can't just type in a few key words and expect millions of results.

Photos also help. bike make, model and year. Did it just pop? Im guessing that you didn't install the chain correctly. Chain's just don't just blow up right out of the gate. Im guessing the master link failed. and the resulting throw of the chain messed with your transmission. did you have your case saver in place?

Did you just install the Rekluse..... You could have dropped something in the trans during the install or something worked itself out ... I have seen this before... If that's the case and you get it out with out jamming through the gears you could be ok...

08 klx450r Just got done putting it together, mountainhorse ST and recluse 3.0 both new. Going very slow, 100 yards down the road, heard quick noise, stopped and checked out bike. Chain was off and laying in the snow 2 feet behind track. No visible damage so put chain back on with new master link and only had neutral and 2nd. Brought back in garage and checked closer and still could not see any heavy damage. Had front sprocket guard in place.

Thinking you let something get into the tranny when you did the clutch.

I would agree. I would pull your clutch cover and pull the clutch and look at the shifter arm.

Turns out I bent the "lever-comp-change shaft" when the chain came off. Nothing else looks damaged inside the clutch. $45 part and some labor, not too bad so far. Rookie mistake putting the master link on.
