Reject Clutch

This is from my '15 Pro. They drilled balance holes as deep as they could half way around the circumference! I've never seen so many. How bad would it have to be before they reject it? The back half just has a few small balance holes. I guess I should rig something up to see if it's a wobbler.

Less rotating mass is a good thing right? I'd take it to an independent shop and have it balanced. Primary too. Polaris thinks a couple grams out is close enough.

that is a lot of holes you should see if your dealer will swap it out for you

Something was wrong with the clutch or something was wrong with the automated machine that balances it.

I'd get it checked by a good shop.

.

I send all my clutches ( both) to Inday Dan for a complete balance-
Top notch to deal with and professional results

That secondary looks like it had some issues.

What is the date stamped on the clutch. 04/01/14?
Lol. You have to wonder how Oem's balance and their specs. I've had some of those big aluminum circles with just a touch or two of a drill bit lol. No way I could believe that so I static checked each half with 2 live centers on my lathe and there was no way to remove enough material to balance even within a 2 gram window lol.

The picture made me think of what might have happened at work that day. Any hand work is only as good as the worker and his or her desire that day.

Videos that came across the U-tube screen in my mind based from the "Lucy Show" and "Honeymooners" (reruns if your not old enough);

-boss just finished telling this worker to pay attention or else
-union steward told him to slow down or else
-co-worker was distracting with a fishing story
-worker got a new drill bit and was amazed at how easy it cut
-worker mis-read a decimal point and was embarrassed
-he was remembering last night
-she was remembering last night
-office worker smiled as she walked by and walked away very slowly
-cell phone rang

Thanks for the laugh! :face-icon-small-hap

Its really hard to say why this would happen without inspecting the clutch. However, IF it is balanced correctly which it most likely is, or there could be other issues or it could be some person at the factory just having fun with your clutch.

I got a zero miles pro clutch in last year that had holes drilled 360* around the cover. It was balanced semi OK or as good as any Polaris clutch from the factory, however we would call the cover "done". If your concerned take it a respected balance shop or you could send it to us and we will verify the balance.

I will look to see if I can find the photo of the 14 pro clutch. It was interesting at best.

Yeah, I thought after checking my clutch I could set up a business with my Makita drill balancing everyones clutches in the parking lot.

First let me say that I have a Tied clutch I'm going to be running so this one is low priority right now.

Here's how I see it. If I take it back to the dealer they are just going to shrug and say what do you want from us. They have no way to check the balance and will trust that the factory did it right until something fails. I have used Indy Dan before but it will cost me minimum $100 just in shipping charges. We use a balancing company at work for rotating equipment and I may inquire with them if this is something they could look at but I know it's not their forte'.

I think if I'm careful I can use the rig I showed above to see if the static balance is way off. And also rig up my dial indicator to check the run-out. I have a good idea how to double check my setup. I know this comes far short of a dynamic spin balance but, hey, if nothing else I get a new tool out of it and can balance motorcycle wheels on the side. :face-icon-small-hap
