reed valve boots

If your reed valve boots are severly cracked to the point where you can see light through, can that prevent fuel from getting to the carbs? Since it needs vacuum for the fuel pump to operate. I am working on a 02 summit and it is getting no fuel. I have to replace a piston and rings in it yet but would like to get it running before i disassemle the engine, that way I can check the crankshaft seals.

fuel pump operates off of the pulses in the crankcase, the boots themselves have no effect over this but i could see their being a reduced pulse in the crankcase if the reeds themselves were pootched.

But, if you have severely cracked boots, the vac signal to the carbs may be so weak that it cannot draw fuel through the circuits.

That will not have an impact on it getting gas but probably explains why you need a new piston. It sucked air and leaned itself out. Not a good idea to run it anymore until you replace the boots, you'll just do more damage. Check out wwwmcyclepartsnation.com for OEM replacements very reasonable compared to dealer.

After I posted I got to thinking the reason you're not getting gas is if you have a bad lung the motor isn't creating any vacuum. You can pull until your heart is content and it will never run. You're gonna have to tear it down to make it run. Sorry no easy answer here.

Update: Well I got the new boots and got them installed today. Fired right up within half a dozen pulls. Shut it off and started it up a couple more times, one pull each time. It idles around 3000. Is this to high and what should it be. This is my brothers first ski doo and we need some info on setting the clutches.
