red and yellow injectors

I completely exploded my first engine at about 1000miles due to a dropped piston skirt... big mess, crankcase halves and all. I ended up buying a used engine on ebay for a decent price and have been running it since.
I never payed enough attention to which fuel rail I used from which engine, but in any case, here's my situation:

On the current engine there are 4 Yellow injectors Poo#2203894-053. I noticed that the electrical connector on lower PTO injector was cracked so today I dug up my other fuel rail to make a swap.

The other rail has 4 red injectors Poo#2203894-015.
They are listed separately through polaris as though they are all options, but they all say "500G/MIN" beside the part# in Polaris parts fiche.

As I said, I am not sure which set of injectors came with which engine. My original engine was for a 2006 900 Switch, the used ebay engine is a 2006 900 supposedly from a Fusion 900
Can someone enlighten me as to the difference between them, if they are interchangeable, or which ones I should be running?!

There's a sticker on your ECU that tells you what color injector to run.

Yes, if you switch all the injectors then you need to have the ECU redone. Also, you can't mix them together either.

Since we are already on the topic, Why would they make incompatible injectors? Is there an advantage to using one color over the other? Why would Polaris spend the time to make several variations of the same part to accomplish the same task that aren't interchangeable? Isn't the only real difference in the flash for the elevation you ride or the pipe you run?

Here's another kicker...
I just finished looking through pics from my first engine failure.... I'm pretty sure I can see a red injector on the table in the background.... this means I have been running the wrong injectors for about 1500 miles :face-icon-small-sho
I must have swapped injectors when I replaced the engine... I'll confirm by checking the ecu tomorrow morning.

I would assume the color variations are due to flow testing and matched sets just like the injectors in our cars and trucks. The ECU is probably flashed to match fuel flow.

yeh when i pulled my 05 900 motor this summer...i knew i had an SLP flash on the ECU for yellow injectors...then pulled the fuel rail for the hell of it, and BAM..red injectors...so i was running this combo for 2000 miles, lol...never an issue, but time to fix it you know...

since you have the injectors out, send them to www.witchhunter.com and get them flowtested and cleaned up now...makes them better then ever!! and only $19 per injector

Sure enough, my sled is supposed to have red injectors, and I have been running yellow ones for 2 seasons.
I wonder what the order is from lowest flowing injector to highest would be...
In any case, it worked out for me, because the cracked injector I was originally concerned with was a yellow. The proper units are in place now.:face-icon-small-dis
Sean, with all my parts about to arrive I'll probably go without sending my injectors away for cleaning this year. These ones have barely been used anyhow.

Blue , Yel , Red
No problem to run Red injectors on yel flash, it will only be a little richer.

So with me running yellow on a red flash was lean.... interesting. I wouldn't suspect it was horribly lean because my pistons look perfect with good wash. Like going 1 step leaner on a main jet I suppose...?
