I was reading on another forum that from all of the recovered sleds from the Turbo Mountain avalanche that 10% of the sleds were in fact stolen.
I am hoping to see the police out there this season checking registration on the trail.
10%,thats unfriggin believable...:face-icon-small-sho

Do you think they were trying to say...

People took 10% of the sleds that were in the avalanche!!

i don't know...

So does that mean:

- 10% of the sleds were stolen from the avalanche site before being recovered?
- 10% of the sleds were stolen earlier and being ridden that day by their non-rightful owners?
- Or some people reported their buried sleds as "stolen" to collect insurance monies?

Also is that 10% of 50 sleds or 10?
Numbers like that are dangerous without clarification.....

The Revy area sucks for theft anyway. People get their sleds stolen there all the time, either in the parking lot of if they break down and have to leave it on the mountain they come back the next day and the sled is either gone (that's a cool trick by the thief) or stuff is stolen off it.

Stats are always all over the place. Sounds to me like people were riding stolen sleds the day of the event and they have been dug up. Those people were probably less likely to make a hard effort to recover it if it was stolen. It's too bad those people don't realize or care how hard so many of us work to be able to afford a sled and put mods into them.

Karma.

If it was in the avy I would have reported it stolen, way easier than having to return the pieces to the insurance company, so you could collect. Like to see what day they where reported stolen.

That's great except too many people do stuff like that, so you wind up with places like BC where sled insurance is $700 for a year because all the cheap *** sledders abused the system in years past.....

47 sleds dug out and flown from the incident site, 5 reported stolen before the incident and not picked up. Is that clear?

sled-guy that isn`t true. Sleds get stolen from all areas on this side and your side of the the border.
We do work with the RCMP and ICBC in this area and have for years to try and solve the problem. What happens is the thieves move to another area for a while. It is organized crime.

Maybe licensing and registration will solve this problem, but this makes it look like we are our own worse enemies.

I left a machine back in the bush in N Ontario for 3 weeks one winter. It was still right where I left it.

That is insurance fraud. You can go to jail for that.

I didn't mean to imply it was only a problem in Revy. But Revy is a well known destination so the theives know they have a good supply there.
