Recoil Rope Length?

Well attempting to start my new to me 03 1m 900 the recoil rope broke on my 3rd attempt. After my initial anger I realized my driveway was the best possible place this could happen. After reading this forum a bit I see it is a common issue with my machine. I'm going to order some of this to replace it.

Any one know the length off the top of their head? I want to get enough for 3 and want to get all the parts before I start the job.

Every time I replaced mine I went to the mountain climbing store and bought 6 feet of 5mm climbing rope. Always worked great.

I want to say it is closer to 5+ ft. Just measure what you remove and add what broke off to it + knot lg. I basically used a little less than half of a 12' package of climbing rope.

i just measured it is 54" from hole in cowling to base of pull handle. Then add about 18" to that or roughly 6' should do it. I thought 4 ft.was too short but I was thinking it was OK when 1st posted.

I re did mine last week, the guy a the climbing store shorted me 1 foot. So I had 5 feet. I went a head and installed it anyway. I do hit the end of it when starting the sled.

I replaced mine this year and ended up cutting about 1-1.5 ft off the stock length that the cat dealer sold me. Thats about how much was left over after we wound the rope and threaded it back out into the handle.

Mines an 03 Mtn cat 900 as well.
