Recoil Attention!

If your recoil on your 900 starts sounding like a rachet and the rope will not retract in housing REPLACE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!! I made the mistake of NOT doing this and thought cleaning and lubing this would solve everything. BIG MISTAKE!!! REMOVE IT AND CHECK IT OUT!!! This would have saved me $176.00 for the new housing and the $cost of the new hub! Lesson learned the hard way. Also helps if the 2 bottom bolts are out as the previous owner didn't put them back in cause its a pain in the a*s!:face-icon-small-sad

Details? what was causing the noise in the first place?

Mines acting up, wont retract when it's cold but works fine after it's warm. Took it apart and looked over everything but the big coil spring, didn't want to get into that right now. Everything seemed fine, the cam arm, the little spring, not much for grease/grime in there. I'm afraid the big spring is probably the culprit, just needs to get me by a few more weeks.....

If you have too much tension set on the recoil spring it can bind and make the reel stick with the cord pulled out.
Also, the factory silicone'd the end of the rope in the reel, I recommend doing this when you re-cord it. There isn't much room so if your knot gets crooked and sticks out down the road it can make the reel stick.

noise

I think the cause of the noise was the spring starting to let go or the bolt holding it in place was begining to get loose. When it let go it totally imploded the guts and took everything out. Rope turned into a mouse nest, blew a hole in hsg when the engaugeing finger let go,cracked hsg face, shredded the plastic inside that hold the rope, spring. Had to use needle nose pliers and a shop vac to get all the shredded rope/plastic out. Also checked the stator out and seemed to be ok.
