So I decided after being one of the 15% 2011-2012 owners in the reliability thread and having 1300 miles on my 2013, I was a just asking for issues. I am going down for shoulder surgery on Friday and decided it would be a good present for me to do my PT if my sled was fresh and waiting for me this spring.
Before you flame me, this sled is completely stock!!!! Only clutching and torque arm added. So after discussing my options with my dealer I decided to do the MTN TEK reliability kit instead of going back to OEM. Hope I choose wisely.
My dealer found that the rings were already chipping and flaking and there was considerable blow by evidence on the pistons. This is the same exact problem my 2011 had when it had 1100 miles on it. I believe the piston and rings to be the weakest part of these sleds. Maybe I should be happy I got almost 2 seasons out of it but any of you who haven't had a catastrophic failure and have over 1000 miles, you just haven't checked your rings. I don't believe these sleds have pistons and rings that will last much past that.
Not asking PI to pay for it or do anything. Just wanted you all to do know that even if you don't notice it at the moment, your rings are probably already coming apart. Be pro-active and freshen up that top end. Gone are the days of consistently getting 3 to 5k out of a motor.
