Rebuild or not rebuild?

Bought a 06 switchback last summer and put mabye 700 miles on this winter with the lack of snow we had in the northeast, had to drive 3hrs north to the border to find snow. I have 4200 miles on it and it runs great and has good compression, should I do a top end? I want to switch from the 144 to either a 151 or 159 this summer (this is my first long track and im hooked but need more track for the riding that I find myself doing)
what are some suggestions

If the compression is good I wouldn't worry about it too much, but I tend to replace piston / rings / wrist bearing at the start of every season as preventative maintenance.

For your track upgrade.... I was right where you are now. 06 900 switchback, wanted more track. The 151 is easy to do because your tunnel is a 144/151 tunnel. All you need is some rail extensions, a 151 track, and a gearing change. Anything longer than 151 will require extending the tunnel and there are no "bolt on" kits that I know of for our non raw IQ tunnels.

I went with WPS rail extensions, and a Polaris series IV 151x2.4 track

andI may as well do the mounts and slp torque stops?

Absolutely.

As for going to a longer track, the difference between the 151 and 159 as far as flotation goes is much more (way better) than it might sound. I guarntee you that you would enjoy the torque of that 900 with proper gearing and clutching if you at least went no less than to a 155" or 159". There used to be a 151" 900 in our group and the off-trail performance of that sled underperformed compared to the 159"s.

I would bet you could pick up a skid and track from a 155 or 159 (series 4 2.4") for cheap and as many guys there are parting out 900's and or Dragon 800's, you could get the correct rear tunnel piece cheap. In fact, I have one if you need one.

Where in the heck?

Burtonboarder_007,
Your killin me...I see that you're from east coast and even better....Weare, NH. I was in Portsmouth. Where are you ridin the long track that you need such a long track. I have been following the guys from sledtheeast.com but, I still can't see there is enough terrain around here to go to a long track and ride off the beaten path. Where are you riding a long track in the east is basically what I am getting at? Seems to be not enough snow and not enough terrain? am I way off?:face-icon-small-ton

Pittsburg, NH is where I ride the most and very rarely we ride the trails. Come ride with us next winter and you will want a londer track after 5 min of riding with the group Im with. I know its still not comparable to the snow out west or up in Canada but it gets pretty damn deep.
