Rear exchanger question

Hey Guys would like some collective thoughts please....i have an 06 700. I have purchased a Flat style polaris tunnel bag for the "newer dragons". i would like to keep behind the seat as is for my extra gas on long trips. Fabricating a rail system to mount it over the cooler is easy for me to do, but! i have excellent running temps now and would like to to retain those......Do the exchangers do most of their cooling from the bottom, would capping them from the top effect them much you think (i will probably provide air space in my mounting rails), has anyone done this yet? Thanks, would just like to mostly carry my safety gear in my pack only as so not to decrease my grooviness with extra weight. lol

the coolers do most of the cooling from under the tunnel where the snow hits it. i built a rack on mine also and no problems.

You wont have any problems other than the bag will get soaked from melted snow/water from the heat exchanger FI it is placed directly on the exhanger..

AND that at the end of the tunnel..the bag goes thru a lot of accelleration up & down when you go thru a whooped out trail... dont put your lunch or any heavy/fragile things in that location IMO.

When I had my "suitcase" bag mounted directly over my exchanger, I ran a consistent 15* hotter. Granted, they cool from the bottom mostly, but the bag seems to "insulate" and hold more heat in when mounted right on top of exchanger.

94FordGuy built a elevated platform to set his on, have him post a pic. Looks like a good solution/fix.

I have looked through all of my stuff and can't find any pictures but I have the long long tunnel bag. It does cover most of the cooler but I hadn't seen a terrible increase in temps. I removed my stock plastic pieces and have it mounted directly on the tunnel.

I would think if you built a little platform, you would be fine. I might have to build something to give it a little kickup and add some space.

no problem here, I ran mine right above the rear cooler for over 1100 miles last year and it worked great.... Only thing to keep in mind is to keep an eye on it as it does bounce a bit in the whoops and it does seem to be wet a lot... best to keep your tow rope/tools, or other robust stuff in there.....

All things considered, I absolutely LOVE having that bag back there:D
