Rear Axle Wheel Issue

I have a late build 03 1m 900 (151) and am in the middle of doing a few upgrades including installing a new 153 track. I am also installing larger 8" rear axle wheel's (from the original 7") I purchased 8" rear wheel's originally for a newer M series model as I was told they would work great...after installing them I placed the rail assy on a level floor and found that with the larger wheel's the rear now sit's not alot but noticably higher then the front, so the track wont be running totaly flush the length of the rails. This dosnt seem right to me...am I missing something? Any pointer's/experience's would be greatly apprieciated!

Im currently working on a "home-made" conversion (if it works?) The old (96) ZRT's had a seperate bracket that bolted on the end of the rail for the rear axle. Have them and all the spare parts I'll need...

Gonna take one of the stiffners like the one in the front of the 1M skid to use as an axle, cut off the 1M skid axle loops, bolt on the ZRT ones (this will move the axle up about 3/8 of an inch or so) and move the 2 wheels/adjusters to the inside of the rails. Will have to switch out the bearings in the 8"wheels. (think I have the ones i need) Still mocking it up at the moment BEFORE i cut anything to be sure this works. Seems like it will standing back and looking at with everything laid out?

This is for a 151" 1M skid with an 8" 2 wheel kit I wanna put in my old ZRT triple.

So, you replace a 7" wheel with an 8" wheel without offsetting the shaft and you can't understand the problem??

Anyways, just run them, won't hurt anything....

Why bother? Just to have wheels that are one inch bigger. I'm thinking this is just a side effect of the sled disease we all have.

Remember... they probably invented them because we WANTED them. Besides, they look cooler in design.

you need to up grade to 04 rail off 151 and that will work, the axle height is diff. for the size of wheel and it will help the track angle in the front to

Obviously I was mis-informed by a couple people! Thanx for the usefull info....after looking a bit further into this I found going to the 04 rails is the key like you said. I managed to score a deal on some new 04 rails off a buddy....just transfered all my suspension to the 04 rails with the new 8" wheel's and it works great!

A different option if you dont want to swap rails:

Parts you'll need:
your stock axle setup + plus the 2 - 8" wheels to replace the 7"
4 MORE washers (8 total, 4 are on the original axle)
2 axle brackets from 96 ZRT trail (probably other models as well, got mine off
1991 ZRT with 121", the brackets are bolted onto the end of the rails)
"Tap" set, cutting wheel/sawzall, drill

Use the short inner spacer (ifon a 3 wheel setup). Will need to cut the axle to fit between the rail add-ons and tap the inner hole to match the other side. Cut an end off the longer inner spacer to match the other short one, then trim it to fit between the 2 inner 8" wheels allowing for a washer on each end of the spacer. Will post the final pics as I finish this project. Gotta buy my other 4 washers tommarrow and finish cutting/tapping the axle and the spacers.

Am using this set-up to put a 153"x2" under my 97' ZRT 600. The suspension is a stock 151" off a 2003 Mtn. Cat. The tensioners can be moved to the inside. Must mount the axle brackets on the inside of the rail, do away with the spacer and use 4 washers stacked between the wheel and tension block, as well as a washer on the outside of the bracket on the end of the axle (10 washers total, 5 per side). I left mine on the outside for ease of adjustment.
