Should Microsoft be ending its support of XP? Yes and no. Look – computers change, nothing lasts forever, and there's an argument to be made that a computer that old isn't giving you everything technology has to offer these days anyway.


On the other hand, we as consumers should have the freedom of choice. It's not like our old cars are summarily ordered off the road.

I find what she wrote here funny. She compares computers to cars but uses the wrong comparison. Microsoft ending its support for Windows XP is not like forcing old cars off the road. It's more like expiring the warranties and expiring service bulletins from cars. Microsoft isn't telling you to get rid of XP. There is no "time bomb" tactic built in that forces your XP computer to stop working. They are simply stating that they will no longer "fix" what is broken.

My opinion, if your have a decent dual core processor or above, make sure you have a minimum of 4 gb of ram and just buy a copy of Windows 7. You'll be much happier with it versus buying a new computer with Windows 8.1 .

Agreed i would just update my OS on my current computer to windows 7. If i had XP of course

There are certain programs that still only work on XP. That's why I am pissed. I use a Bentley Manual for when I service and work on Audi's. I had to load a secondary XP program onto my windows 8 laptop to get it to work.

I ran in to the same issue with programs not running on anything but Windows XP. With Windows 7, I was able to use XP Mode to fix the issue. With Windows 8, I had to use a program called virtual box by oracle to run Windows XP. It's very irritating! But I put 75% of the blame on the software developers of the software that will not run on newer operating systems. I write software and that is the #2 thing on my list is to verify my software runs on the latest operating systems.
