Re-tapping Diamond Drive Cover

Those of you that have stripped out the threads, what have you found that works best for a replacement. These currently have the fine thread self tapping cap screws. I've done a couple things to my diamond and one of the bottom (of course) screws finally stripped. Its the aluminum case that strips not the screw. I always did mine by hand and was very carefull not overtighten, they only get 11-12 lbs. But....it still stripped out. Anyway, I got a odd ball screw to tighten down for now but will pull the whole thing and tap them all correctly this summer.

I didn't take a good look when I had my cover off but there might be enough room to drill out a bigger hole, re-tap, then install a helicoil in place... might not be enough meat in the aluminum though...

I am not familiar with a bottoming tap but I will pull it out and have it on the bench so running the tap all the way thru will not be a problem. I thought a 1/4 course would work best also from the look of it. Why they put such fine threads in that aluminum I do not know. Thanks for the input.
