got the headshim done. now i got the back bolt in and the front ones to. all adjusted, but the question of the day is. do i let the motor hang and tighten or lift it up and tighten? there is a lot of difference there!

There should be no movement up or down if you have all three motor mount bolts in. There should only be side to side movement until they are adjusted and tightened. Be careful to do it right or your clutch alignment will be off.

well thats the delema, the motor does move up and down a lot. the bolts are so sloppy, and i do have the service manual. did it exactly like the instructions, but you can move the engine a pile up and down on the front bolts. side ways is no problem, i did exactly right. i'm thinking just let it hang and tighten as per instructions but as its the weekend no way to check with dealer.

The only way the motor will move up and down is if you failed to tighten the 3 bolts that attach the little triangle piece to the subframe that the clutch side front motor mounts attach to. Or I guess if you put the long rear bolt through and missed the actual motor eyelets that it runs through. If thats the case you will have about 2 inches of travel up and down. We take this bolt out to do headshim work and move the motor forward to access the timing chain tensioner.

I know exactly what your talking about and I wouldn't let it just hang. I usually put a jack under the motor(in front of the oil filter) and lift until the bolt holes on the motor are centered in the mounts. Once everything is tight double check your deflection and make sure the motor is straight.

any tips on checking deflection? will have to check the manual probably some tool needed. had to make a tool to adjust the motor aligment shims. love the japs and there ideas.
