Re-Decked my Deck

Deck on my Silverlake was getting pretty weathered so I picked up some newpoly from Mirage and re-decked it this weekend. Had a few challenges - the old decking was 1/2" and the new stuff was 3/4" (actually I think it is .70"). So I had to shim the edges of the retractable sides 1/4" - easy enough. Also, re-decking would take 3 sheets of material cause you have to buy full sheets. With 2 full sheets you only come out 5" (x 8' ) short of having enough. So it's pretty hard to justify buying that 3rd sheet! Mirage was great, they had some rem and gave me (2) 3 x 96" strips. That gave me enough to do the deck without buying 3 sheets. They also threw in a bunch of self drilling screws to put the deck on and those worked great.

Anyway- my old deck had cleats on it - I really don't want to put them on the new deck but can't decide if I am going to leave them off or put them back on. I know the newpoly is tuff but am worried I'll still tear it up over time. Also, the old deck they put the cleats 10" on center - seems like overkill. If I was going to put them back on I was thinking 12-14" would still keep the skis off the deck and will save a couple of cleats. Any comments? If I could get away with it, I would only put a couple where the skis sit when they are clamped down - and maybe 1 at the edge of the deck were you first ride on to protect the edge a little - but if you look close, I already capped those areas's with 1/8" thick angle aluminum.

The newpoly is not cheap for sure. It's $150/sheet (4x8'). One other thing I forgot to mention is what I used to seal the exposed edges from cutting the material. I spent a lot of time looking at different options but in the end, I used Rust-Oleum (sp?) gutter seal/rubberized something - got it at home depot. It drys similiar/same to whatever the manufacturer of the newpoly sheets is using - but not quite as tarry as what they used which is nice (does not rub off on everything).

your still going to need to run cleats, i deal with the newpoly in trailers daily because they come in ripped and torn. Its tough stuff for awhile, but after a season or two, its gonna tear depending on how much you ride.

I am yet to see a pic or a thread with ripped or torn polybead flooding. Maybe possible from studs but I can't see it from carbides. Not trying to start a pissin match but do u have any pics?

I have polybead flooring in my Mirage trailer and still put down SuperGlides as polybead is crazy slippering with a dusting of snow on it. Go with Superglides and you'll save your decking plus have good traction for when you are up there. Save yourself a nasty fall for sure!

I have the NuPoly on my Mission deck. The previous owner left it bare and only used it a few times but you tell it's about to go through. I could see each time he loaded and unloaded with a small trough cut in. I covered it with glide. Edges are vulnerable, so some protection there is needed.

Be careful with the aluminum edging. I had lost a glide on my ramp and found out the hard way that carbides don't glide very well across aluminum. The combo is surprisingly sticky.

It's probably a little late but plastic bed liner with the grooves in it works pretty well for keeping your skis off the deck and cheap if you can get it free or just for real cheap used. Then cut it however you want.

What is this deck and where can I buy it. I googled new poly and got very little info. I need a new deck ASAP!

Thanks
Drew d.
