Rally up folks Snojo got hurt today

I will post the whole story later but the long and short of it is that she crashed hard in a gully and broke her hip and femur.

She is in the hospital and doing well, in surgury right now, I saw her and Idaho Slim earlier and both were in good spirits and waiting for her turn in the OR. She was really glad to be warm.

The important thing is to give Snojo and Idaho Slim some sledder support right now. It is very hard to see your friend or loved one in pain.

We were able to get her out via helicopter in about 1.5 hours, relatively quick for a backcountry rescue.

She was riding with me and my wife and Dam Dave. Idaho Slim took a pass on account of his sled wreck on saturday in IP.

We did have space blankets and a bivy sack ( thanks to Dam Dave ), food, water, etc.

Local search and rescue showed up but I will say this: SLEDDERS BE PREPARED TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN!!! ( Not bashing S and R so don't start any BS )

Like I said I will post the whole story later but this ordeal was sucessful due to preparedness, knowledge of the local area, KNOWLEDGE OF LOCAL EMERGENCY SUPPORT SERVICES, and my friend and co-worker TW who did a great job getting in there with the helicopter, and as always A GOOD DOSE OF LUCK.

Thanks also to the two local sledders who stepped up and helped out, I don't know their names but they pitched right in and didn't quit till the deal was done, makes you happy to see this kind of attitude.

I will quit for now it has been a long day. Send your best to Jo and Slim.

Matt.

Holy chit guys! Hang in there Jode...glad to hear that good folks were there to take care of you. Let me know if you two need anything. Scott

Very glad to hear you are ok and in good hands. That very same thing has happened to two of my friends here in Bonners just this year!! Supprisingly they have gotten up and mobile very quickly (hope that gives you a little encouragement for a quick recovery) Take care of yourself!!:(:(:p

Sad to hear this news! I'm hoping surgery went well?? I assume they used an intermedullary rod, which enables quicker healing and weight bearing? Heal quickly! Glad to hear you made it out and to appropriate care quickly. Kudos to those on the mountain who, it sounds like, acted quickly.

We were lucky to have WMD there, and we had some cell service, and a hell of a pilot! without those 3 things, we would have been out there for several more hours, WMD knew who to call and what to tell them to get the ball rolling sooner, I can tell you that TW did a hell of a job getting that Bird in there, when you are out there with some one that is hurt that bad, the sound of that copter approaching is just awesome, WMD and TW are the heroes in this story.:beer;

Ask yourself this question: are you prepared to keep someone stable and warm! For how long! Look in your packs!

Update

Surgury went well, I saw Jo this morning and she was eating breakfast and making jokes. Very strong gal! With time and good friends she will ride again.

Matt
