Raising bars on 97 700 RMK

Can someone tell me the best way to raise the bars on this sled. I'm thinking maybe 6 or 8"s?? I'm leaning towards a Power Madd pivot adapter and block. Any ideas on price of an extended throttle cable and will I need to extend my wires as well? Will I need a stronger post or will the stocker work? I don't want do dump a ton of money into this old of a sled but want to do it right so is there something better to use other than the Power Madd?

Thanks for any input.

I have a 98, put a pivot adapter and a 8" block....all i had to do was extend my throttle cable....however I downsized this year due to constantly bending my steering post. These older sleds just weren't made to have all that rise. Currently I got the pivot adapter and a 4 inch riser total of like 6 inches......im 6'7" tall and it wrks fine for me.

I have a fly pivot mount and 6" risers with their aerotaper bars and it works great. I would recommend a chromoly post or inserting a steel shaft down the post for strength though. I'm about 6' 1" and love my set-up

I went with a Wildchild post, +2" IIRC, and a 3" Ole's riser, very nice setup. Would like it taller sometimes, but not really a mountain rider, and it makes for a nice blend of sitting/standing useability.

A few things come into play here.
The steering post is weak.
An easy fix is to get fiberglass resin from the auto parts store,
put just a little less hardener in it so that it doesn't crack and fill the steering post with it. (plug the bottom first)

From there, you will need the pivot riser, steering post adapter, and depending on how high you go, extended throttle cable and brake line.
You will be extending 4 or 5 wires as well.
Do them 1 at a time so that you do not cross wires,

You can find everything you need at www.gravityworxracing.com
Check out the tech info page as well, there is some good info with links to more good info covering this.

For a riser and pivot adapter I would definetly go with RSIracings products they are awesome, affordable and built to take a beating. Go to their web page and you will find everything you need. I have installed their risers on a couple of my sled and I could not be happier.:)

i believe SLP makes a twin bearing steering post guide......I had an 01 RMK with only four inches of rise.......I did not have any after market steering post strengthener. My old sled's post would bend if I looked at it wrong. I also pounded a stick of cold roll steel down the post to try and reinforce it as well..............

Everyone is correct about the steering post-weak.On my 98 I hated the angle at which the oem bars angled back.Simple solution for next to no $$ was to install used Cat bars and had to change nothing for cables. For me it gave me the height (riser could be used the cables would just have to be lengthened)I was looking for and a different angle at which my grips angled forward more.Awesome outcome for $25.00.Sled hated the AC bars at first but once she figured out I wasn't taking them off she changed her attitude!!LOL.

Thanks fellas for all the tips and ideas.. trying to decide if the old gal is worth the money; could be an excuse just to buy a new sled with higher bars.:p

on my 2000 rmk 600 i have the 6inch pivot with the addaptor. bought a throttle ext and a ext brake line and i love it so far!
if your any shorter then me which is 5'9" i would recomend not going any higher! its pretty dang tall now!
thats my $0.02 worth
