Rails bending on the HCR

Just use a piece of 5/8" alum. bar like the other cross braces to tie the wheels together. Remember the rails are like a ladder, Start removing rungs and see what happens? You can see where all the load went without them tied together. The 5/16 bolts are just fine, But you could drill out to 3/8 like the older heavier stuff.

Has anybody that has removed the boggies and added a cross bar noticed any additional hyfax wear?

Thread #2 about this. Wake up Cat!!! Help us out with this.

I'm wondering the same thing. Considering removing the idler wheels and replacing with a brace. But, am concerned over additional hyfax wear. Would this be the case? Also, would there be any other concerns with removing the idlers? I'm sure they serve a good purpose. However, I'm very concerned about bending the rails.

Please help:confused:

I installed the kit on my HCR. Drop the skid and you have to do a bit of drilling. The kit comes with all mounting hardware, which there is some longer bolts on there. Easy fix..takes about an hour to complete the job.

the ice age rails look bomb proof to me and are almost twice as heavy as the stock cat rails

yes ice age rails! so far ok on my HCR, but i would hate to have the rails blow out off a monster drop... have the ice age in the garage, best put them on immediately!

Well it happened finally, blew up the stock rails and bent the rear axel into a U. It was just a little 80 foot booter to ramped landing that we built with the groomer. over shot it a couple of times...

Put on my Ice Age Rails and custom built steel axel. A lot beefer and rides great still!

No i don't have any pics and i just got done hammering and putting stiffeners in it  so i don't have to miss time riding until the new ones get here. it happened right where the inside wheels are in the center of the track it looked like some one twisted both sides out never seen anything like it. I know one thing though the new rails i put on wont be the same POS 2009-10 rails that they come with. any one have some 2007 or 2008 153" rails in mint shape?

You hit something hard enough to push on the inside idler wheels and bend the rails out..... take the wheels off and run ice scratchers... I've seen it happen on before

I took off all my idler wheels and well.......just finished installing new hifax

i dont think that you can!!!!?????

i dont think that you can tie the wheels together with a cross piece because the shock comes down in between there. But i think that there is a wheel kit that a guy can replace them with that the wheels are smaller and the cross brace does not intefere. Dont quote me on this, it is just what i am thinking would happen.

bdx makes a two bogies that go on each side of your zero pro shock, i removed all these bogies added the the bdx ones, and also added a bdx antistab kit. also got iceage rails (they look beefy as hell!) and im very happy with it so far! :)
-Aksnopro!

Does the BDX kit make it so you can remove the idler wheels that are contributing to the rails bending or is this in addition to those wheels?

I am thinking that you could take the wheels in question out and run a piece of bar in its place like the bar behind the wheels. Doesnt look like the shock comes down far enough to interfere with that option from aksnopro's pic of his bent rails and wheels?

At the least you could cut down a piece of bar to fit fairly snug inbetween the wheels and use a long bolt or piece of threaded rod to make a solid connection between the 2 wheels.

Also, the additional rail stiffeners from AC look like inexpensive insurance compared to the Ice Age rails which are running about $350 b4 shipping.

As far as attaching those AC frame stiffeners, do you have to do any drilling (thought I caught that you did in a earlier post) or are they direct bolt on with longer hardware??
