Radium Area Riding

Wondering if Forster Creek is the best place to ride around Radium Area. How long is the trail ride? Anybody willing to give up any secret stashes? Heading up after Christmas with some friends.

Forster is awesome area with meadows and trees and after that it is wide open. The catamount glacier is closed to sledding, but that does not seem to stop sledders from heading there. The early season parking area is less than 25 km from Radium down the Horsethief , go straight at the 4 way stop and then turn right on the Forester at around the 15 or 17 and can't exactly remember the km mark, but it is signed. Follow the main road until the bridge and then keep right. I am sure you will see some tracks.

There is also a second lot that is used later in the year where you turn left at the 4 way stop and drive to an open clearing area and then sled into to the early season staging area. I'll seee if I can find a pic and post later of the area.

I rode Brewer Creek and Forester last year. Brewer was way cooler than Forester(only rode at forester twice but after the first climb up onto thunder lake it was totally socked in both times)

I am not sure how to get to Brewer I was riding with Dave from Toby Creek adventures, amazing guide. Maybe look it up it was amazing.

Here are a few pics.....

That being said.....Do not sled on the glacier, even if others are doing it. The Radium club works hard at keeping the areas open.

Brapppinbastard..... If you go up Forester, after you pass the cabin at the end of the trail, you will cross some open meadows and wind through the trees a little, the Catamount Glacier is on your left. You have to climb a pretty good little hill to get up on it. Instead of going left, keep going straight through the trees til you get to the end of the valley. You will have to climb a hill to get up towards the lake. If the visibility sucks, then be careful climbing the hill, last year it was icy as hell and sleds were going up it but you couldn't see the top from the bottom, guys would spin out and then bail, sat at the bottom and just watched as 3 sleds came ghost riding out of the fog within about 15 mins. But there are lots of places to play along the way in the trees if you can't see up top. Make sure you buy your trail passes as well. :)

No haha i no there isnt that much snow yet. Im just wonding if that small avy on the third pic had a track climbing out of it to the top?

No we were the first bunch in there after they were testing some Avalanche back-packs the day before. Even though it was one day after bombing and testing the wind corniced up a few bowls pretty good.

O ic because it look just like one when my bro was climbing to the top and it broke, thought it would be kinda funny if it was the same one.

This is the way to go if you want to hit Brewer... hire a guide.

Alot of locals consider the hazard level really high in that area...

So I heard, a few AVY deaths in the last few years. Dave our guide was the one that did all the bombing the day before so he knew for the most part that things were safer. Nothing is ever safe.

Great ride, way better then Forrester in my opinion.

forester is a kick *** place to ride if you know where to go. Thunderwater, catmont glacier is sick, whirlpool, norhtstar, really nice climbs everywhere and u can always find untouched places too ride.

thunderwater is the only open area to ride , the rest are closed to sleds....
