Racing in the North West

I am interested in doing some cross-country racing, but I don't know of too many. What races are there and are there any in the North West? I am fairly fast and want to put it to use. I live an hour north of Spokane, WA. Thanks guys

Back in 04 WSSRA had a Series of races down out of Trout Lake,Wa by Mt. Adams. I Kept it going until then, but the race entries were way down,So that ended. If you want to race really bad go start your own. Good Luck.

Yep, Mike could write the book on how to have races in WA. The forrest service, insurance, sherriffs writing tickets, collecting $$. It was fun while it lasted.

That sucks that it did not work out. If I have to travel to the East or Mid-West, I will, but I was hoping for more local action. I used to race ATV's professionally and I still have that bug to race.

It worked out from 1998 to 2004 for the XC races. 2003 we had to cancel due to lack of snow and the following year we raced but by then the numbers had fallen from 30-40 racers down to 12-17. It was some of the best racing. I think the Butte Busters club out of Omak,Wa has a local XC event, maybe it was the Chelan club, not sure, just remember seeing an ad for it a year or so ago.

Uscc

I think you are going to have to come to at least North Dakota/Minnesota to do any XC racing.

This was my first year doing XC on the USCC circuit and I had a blast with it. I learned a lot and am def going to do it again.

You must really want to race if your gonna come all the way from Washington!!

The new 7.2FX on Kenda Klondikes got her first ride to & from work today. Observations:

The studded Klondikes roll suprisingly well on dry pavement, are plenty grippy on wet pavement, with a light covering of snow, and in a couple of inches of snow & crud accumulated on the shoulders. One the way home I did a few miles on the towpath trail and they performed well there too, both when the snow was loose and when it was packed and rutted with footprints. All in all I the 700x35 Klondikes rolled better and gave me just as much traction as the 26" Nokians I had on my old MTB on dry pavement, wet pavement, pavement with a dusting of snow and on 2" or so of snow & crud built up on the shoulders. In deeper snow on the softer path, I'd still prefer wider tires with lower pressure.

The flat bars on the Trek defintely made me feel more stable than the drops on the SS it replaced, and having gear choices made climbing much safer. Climbing out of the saddle, as I had to do on the SS, on snowy/icy roads, just plain isn't fun. I never budged from the 38t chainring and the 11-32 cassette gave me all the gear choices I needed, with my butt planted on my B17. I might just scrap the FD and use a single chainring on the front, since the vast majority of my winter commuting is on pavement. But then again, I might come to like that 28t granny ring in deep snow. ;)

Bottom line - I think I like this hybrid better than either my old MTB or the SS for my commutes on snowy days. The flat bars and gear choices make it better for the climbs and deeper snow than the SS, while it's lighter than the old MTB and the thinner 700c tires roll better in all but deep snow/soft ground.

This is the time of year to get the ball rolling if you want a race in your state. Go find a host site, secure a permit ,get sponsors,Find a club to help out. you young single guys or gals should get this going for future racers or the sport will die for good. Good Luck!

You bet I do! I was off of a sled for 14 years, but then in February I got a sled through some trading. On my second ride I was faster than anybody in the group, and they are fast guys. It had been four years since I had raced quads, but I realized that my speed was still there. So yes, I really do want to race.

I am too busy to start a race or series on my own, but I will look into club assistance. Working two jobs leaves little for free time. They did the snocross and hillcross out here this year, so maybe a cross-country race is in the near future. I can only hope.
