Race or pump gas setup

Hey guys thinking of doing a m8 turbo. Want something pretty reliable and will spank the non turbo xp's. Most guys i ride with are 160 pounds and im 240. Will a pump gas kit do this or do I need to go race kit? Or somewhere in the middle, non intercooled 50/50 mix around 8 lbs would be a clean set up. Thanks for insight.

8lbs on an M8 is nice and is enough to do what your after....at high elevation you may only need 1-2 gallons of race for that added safety factor, anything else is a waste

and dont ever go past 13lbs, you'll be hooked for life, you cant go back:face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-hap

Do yourself a favor and buy a race gas kit that has four injectors in the throttle bodies . Pump gas boost levels are lame. After you get high passed by a sled with the skis in the air.

The instant track speed you get at 12 lbs makes boondocking through the trees alot of fun.

I have two days on my CPC Stage 2 kit, and it's fun on 5#s! It feels like a bigbore.

Turn it up to 8-9 and it's just straight up not fare! It'll blow your minds on 9#s!

Go with a kit that can run 8-9#s on pump gas, it's pretty sweet! And it's really as much power as a guy needs.:first:

X2 for cpc stage 2 kit. Running at 9 psi and it is the most fun I've ever had on a sled! Your buddies stock sleds will not come close to touching you!

i cant wait to try that thing out. i wonder if i can make it the whole season without pullin the trigger on boost....

edit: i rode a boondocker kit 800 on 9 psi at 10000 feet last year for most of the day and it made my n.a. 1000 feel like it was running on one cylinder. i can only imagine how awesome 18 psi is!

If you go Boondocker go race gas with intercooler. I went PG and am regretting it. I was on a budget and should of cut elswhere. Once you hit 10 lbs EVERYTHING ELSE JUST IS A BORE. Remember you can dial it down and run premium. Im currently pricing fuel upgrade ebc and intercooler

Been doing research on the race gas kits now and there are so many options. For around 9 lbs of boost some kits offer secondary injectors and also the mini intercooler with fan. Are you guys seeing big gains from the intercooler? Also is it important to have the extra injectors in the throttle bodies rather than somewhere else such as the the air box.
Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Looks like cutler has a real clean kit. Has anyone had troubles with the muffler getting blocked with snow on a deep day with the front exhaust exit? Also is it safe to say reeds and pistons every year? I'm sure it depends on miles on pounds of boost.

If money is not the determining factor its race gas all the way. I have not heard one person that has a race gas kit say "gee I wish I had a pump gas kit". but I hear tons of guys say they had wished they got race gas over pump. I don't believe the inter-cooler is worth it at such low boost numbers. If you have your heart set on being able to run pump at least some of the time I would go with the cutler stage 3 the extra 500 bucks over a stage 2 is well worth the extra ponies. If you go strictly race gas I would go Twisted or OVS personally! 18 pounds is sick:face-icon-small-coo

We expected to have that problem, but actually even on the over hood days have not seen a bog on this sled (due to powder anyhow, we have an occasional VERY random bog that happens on starting)

We run 9.5-12 most of the time, but turn our stage II up to 15 here & there... you SO do not need 15psi... it gets out of hand QUICK, but 10-12 is a great area to run in for us!!!:face-icon-small-hap

Changed reeds at 1300 miles, but they were still good & pistons went 1500 as well. Honestly, aside from the occasional need to yank on the thing a few times when you try to start it hot (need to flip the switch) and a very occasional bog, this thing has been stock reliable. I would not hesitate to recommend cutler for a second. His kit also is able to run much higher boost levels without the complexity & cost of the 2 extra injectors that BD runs for the extra boost. I feel like we get a very versatile kit for the $$ from Cutler.

ALSO, and MUCH more important imo, when he made changes after the fact (UPDATES:face-icon-small-win) he sent them to us for FREE, no cost, zero, zip, NADA. You buy a cutler kit, he takes care of you, period. We didn't even buy the kit from him, we bought it from Zollingers who did the install them selves, so he likely didn't make squat on the kit, yet he treated us like we had spent 7k with him.

I hear the same thing about Shain, great service after the sale, and a great solid running product.

NO INNERHEATER, NO BOONDICKER.

I have heard people gripe about the service for cutler, boondockers, twisted, and ovs. There is always someone you aren't going to make happy. I bet all in all the service is great from all of them. I have heard or seen problems for all of them. Most of the time it is from the install or the person isn't knowledgeable enough. Once in a while there are new parts that are bad. Who has ever bought a new alternator for their pickup that was bad. These four are pretty much past any bad designs. Go for the service in your area. If you have the money I would get the race gas and you can run whatever you want. Also, the boondocker kits run awesome and I havn't had any bogs. I think we are going to have to have a turbo butthurt forum and a sled butthurt forum for all the people who can't stand it when someone has fun on something other than what they ride.

No the muffler doesn't get plugged with snow on the CPC kit. And yes, super clean install and get a gauge cage, keeps the gauge bracket off of the bars and keeps a nice clean look. No bogs and my throttle response is amazing! My stage 2, take a look...

Ok if you want to stomp on a non turbo xp all you need is a piped 09 or newer m1000 and a xp is a dog, my cousin weighs about 150lb I weigh 210ish lbs and pack gas and about 10+lbs of tools, I have left him less than half way up a hill stuck and I went ripping past with my skis 2 1/2 feet in the air, the hill got steeper and I went over the top. The only xp that even came close was a 2010 with head full pipe and full on clutching, but it still wouldn't pull with the m1000, very nice sled though. I will also say its way more fun to stomp on a xp with what they call a heavy artic cat m1000. You get a turbo and your going to be bored after a while. I'm getting one of each. Go rg with a kit that requires very little changes to run pg or rg. I would not use bd just because I dont want to have to keep on checking for updates (which they wont tell you about until you call them with a problem) Twisted is my choice but it is a very basic kit that only uses what is require to get big power and you mix your gas, culter is very clean, and uses the right stuff in a different way, they would be my second choice. there are many good turbos you just get to liking one and find out soon enough. But sometimes the kit means nothing and the dealer is everything so if your not a tuner find a good dealer.

How loud is that thing with the muffler removed?

Why would you remove the muffler? If it made more power that way I'm pretty sure Zollingers would have pulled it (they don't run the cold air intake for that reason), but they run it with the muffler on for a reason.

oh, and the answer would be... annoyingly loud.

I was not saying to remove it, if you look close it looks like he already removed it ( straight pipe welded in) or maybe its just the hot dogger playing tricks on me. And that was my point if it was removed it must be stupid loud.
