Race fuel storage - no octane loss

I lost the person's email (a racer from Minnesota) that asked me a question about how I store my race fuel through the summer so is good for next riding season, so hopefully they read this post. I had an aluminum bung made and machined two ports in it. One for inlet for nitrogen and other for fuel outlet. I hooked up a nitrogen bottle with a low pressure regulator to the one port and put a copper pickup tube in the tank on the other with a rubber gas hose on the outside with a valve. This way you can store your race gas and not lose the octane. Everytime you open your tank and hear the woosh, that is part of the octane escaping. With using Nitrogen as the inert gas it keeps the octane in and when under pressue can then use it to fill your tanks.

Just remember it is very important to shut the nitrogen tank off when the valve is closed otherwise you will come back to looking at your tank which will be a big puffed up Blue Michelan Man if you are lucky enough that it didn't burst.

I do not make these aluminum bungs for resale for fear of the liability involved, but tried to show everyone how they can be made.

Approx 5 Psi - Very Low Pressure. My Regulator Is Not Low Pressure, Thus The Gauge Doesn't Even Register. Just Turn It In Until I Hear A Little Nitrogen Coming Into The Tank.
