Rabbit Ears

By February things should be good. The snow is less than ideal right now, buuuuuuuuuuuuuut people are riding and finding little pockets here and there with deep snow that was deposited by the wind.

Drove over this last weekend and you can still see the sage and other brush poking thru.

Take it as you may, but if we start seeing the storm track it'll be good to go by then.

From the looks of the news, Denver got more snow from this storm than we did up here. Got a solid 1/2" at the house.

Thinking about taking a trip to the ears this weekend. I know the snow is far less than ideal, but I've never been there, and need to explore it for future trip. Any tips on where (and when) to park, and which direction to head? Are the wilderness areas well marked? Are the trails marked well? Other tips for a RE noob?

I'm much noob over there as well. But the time I spent there it was clear a gps can be very helpful. Lots of open meadows, hills, gully's, and drainages to tear up and if you don't pay close attention to the sun or other landmarks I could see it to be quite easy to get turned around in there.

I think TMK 50 posted with maps and stuff. Probably get a map from coloradosledcity.com to. Boundaries are pretty well marked but easy to blow by if your not expecting them. Helps to have a map to know where to keep an eye out. A GPS is a good idea to, for when the map looks all wrong!

Parking? There are three lots on top. The MC lot is the nicest and it's protected. Hard to see so pay attention. It's a mile West as soon as you crest on the East side. Then there is that big parking area on both sides of the road. Can't miss it or the one after the MC lot

Time to park? Now when the snow is less than epic. Anytime. When it gets good, I like to be there between 730-800am jsut to get a spot where I won't get blocked in. Sometimes RV riders can jack up the lot pretty good with one bus and trailer.

Trails? pretty well marked but follow bushys advice

Wilderness? It's way way north and pretty well marked.

It is all no snowmobiles to the west also. The boundary is marked in a few spots. There is also wilderness south west of the lot. The wilderness do not have much for markings where they are.

Go to http://coloradosledcity.com/content.aspx?page_id=1980&club_id=45117#search_results and look at the map. It roughly shows the area. The trails have been marked and are fairly easy to follow in good weather.

Thanks guys. appreciate it.
Not sure if it'll be Saturday or Sunday at this point. I'll have a two place enclosed trailer that's black and rust, so if I screw up the parking lot etiquette, you know who to blame:face-icon-small-sho

Lab Rat, Good chance I will be up there on Sunday. If I see your trailer, I will say hello and am super familiar with the area. Dont mind showing your around if you want.

I will be riding out there too. My new sled got delievered to my buds house today. I fly out tomorrow, sat will be installing all my new add ons and will ride Sunday. I know the conditions are poor, but I need to just rack on some trail miles to break her in.
