rabbit ears/buff condition update

thats good info!! thanks.

"We start at Rabbit Ears and head north on trail number 1A, at Summit lake the trail splits, 1D heads west down to Dry lake, and 1E heads east down to Grizzly creek. Usually we groom to Grizzly creek then head south on trail number 1F back to Rabbit Ears"

does this mean they dont go to the lot itself but only to the intersection?

They groom past the intersection to the parking lot.

It is a little different this year. There is a groomer at dry lake that goes over the top to grizzly creek parking lot and across the top south to long lake. There is another groomer that comes from rabbit ears to long lake. The groomer at dry lake is a trial run this season going mostly off donations.

Link above pretty much gives the conditions, 5 feet or more in the last week.

Was there late in the week, was just barely freezing and the snow was heavier base building stuff. So instead of tits deep in a get off, it was thigh deep.

As long as it doesn't warm up enough to crust, wouldn't take much snow while you're there to have good riding.

The road into Coalmont was closed for a couple days this week. Couldn't get into Grizzly Creek parking area. All lots were full up at Rabbit ears pass by 9:30am.

Have fun

Snowpack is at 156% of average in Colorado basin this week as per 9news TV station. It definitely doesn't suck. Bring extra oil and gas. Maybe a spare belt.

Have fun :)

Rode buff yesterday. Some of the best all around conditions I've ever seen. 23*, 2-3' of powder, and blue skies most of the day. The snow up top in the sun was setting up pretty quick but anything out of the sun was super good.

Stopped in Walden to get tags and the lady said grizzly creek lot is closed and have to ride the 10 miles from highway to get to the lot. Anyone been there to confirm this??

That's going to suck. Keep us posted. I'm heading out there in a couple weeks

Read my post from 5 days ago...

A lot can change in 5 days.

But anyways I will give a good update.

The road is definitely closed. Some locals (Colorado plates) did park at an intersection about 5 miles in. One was blocking someone's driveway and looked to be drug out of the way.

They have gotten roughly up to 2 miles from the lot. They are moving about a 4 foot base so it is taking a while.

The trail is well groomed and the conditions are real good. Over the hood in most placing other then Open areas that are wind blown. Made it roughly a mile maybe away from the tower and did not have to look hard.

If you don't mind a long but smooth trail ride it is well worth it. I will be doing it for another two days. Not much traffic at all because of the long ride.

Last week sheriff was sending anyone who went around the road closed sign back out if they did not live there.

Um. Not in my case. Drove up there and parked in a wide spot in the road and rode the sled an extra two miles. Super good snow conditions.

Buff pass/ears snow conditions

Anyone ride say/ sun. Thinking of making trip to ride Wesday-Saturday this week. Just wondering about snow conditions were like. Thanks
